Triumph Expands 2016 Tiger Explorer Range to Six New Models

Updated Triumph Tiger Explorer unveiled at EICMA with a host of changes.

Published on 11.17.2015

Triumph improves its largest Adventure Bike, the Tiger Explorer, with several new changes for 2016. Most notable is the segmentation of the Explorer line into six separate models. The new Triumph Tiger Explorer line starts with two base models – the road-biased XR and off-road-biased XC. XR models come with cast 17″ wheels, while XC models utilize 17″ rear and 19″ front wire-spoked wheels.

The base level XR and XC models can be upgraded with additional equipment in the form of the XRx and XCx models. Two additional models, the XRt and XCa, further upgrade the Tiger Explorer with top-of-the-line equipment.

Road-oriented XR models come equipped with cast wheels, while more off-road focused XC models utilize wire-spoked wheels.

We don’t have all the details yet about what differentiates the XRx and XCx from the top-tier XRt and XCa models, but XRt and XCa models receive a new advanced electronics package that includes semi-active suspension, lean angle sensitive ABS and traction control, additional rider modes and a hill hold control feature. Two low seat height options and semi-active suspension will be available on the XRx and XCx models.

All six models are powered by the same 1215cc inline Triple with shaft final drive, 6-speed transmission and torque-assisted clutch. Power is said to be improved for 2016 with the aid of a new exhaust system but no performance specs have been released at this time.

The Tiger Explorer also gets new body work with sharper lines and a category-first electrically adjustable windscreen. No word yet on North American pricing or availability but we expect to receive more details soon.

i am a firm believer that adventure bikes like dual sport should be barebones or bulletproof, with very little electronics and easy to fix (on the go) capabilities.these bikes will undergo punishment offroad.Imagine being deep in the mountains then baam. electronics go hayware or in the very unlikely but
possible, shaft going out.in my country the nearest repair shops are in major towns.towing this bikes would be a nightmare.if you live in canada or usa you might be lucky.in africa its a jungle out here.just my opinion. still a nice array of bikes to choose from
