New Benelli TRK 502 Adventure Bike Coming to US

Benelli expands options by adding the TRK 502 Adventure Bike to US lineup.

Published on 03.16.2017

Benelli recently jump-started their resurgence with a restructuring of their lineup and the introduction of several new models. Among them, the TRK 502, is Benelli’s new offer in the Adventure Touring segment and the brand’s answer to demand for more mid-displacement adventure bike options.

The Benelli TRK 502 has already hit showroom floors in Europe, and after much speculation we have confirmed it will soon be coming to U.S. shores. Mel Harris of SSR Motorsports, the U.S. distributor for Benelli Motorcycles, recently confirmed to ADV Pulse: “We are looking for late 2017 or early 2018 delivery as a 2018 model.” Official U.S. pricing has not yet been determined but if the UK price tag of £5,499 (currently $6,749 USD) is any indication, the TRK 502 could be an attractive option in the adventure touring segment.

At the heart of the Benelli TRK 502, is a 500cc 4-valve parallel-twin DOHC engine with EFI and a 6-speed gearbox. The engine, developed by Benelli for its latest models, is fueled by a large 5.3 gallon tank that gives the TRK 502 a good range between fuel stops. Peak power of 47 hp arrives at 8,500 rpm and peak torque is 33 ft-lb at 5,000 rpm.

The TRK 502 is also outfitted with wire-spoked wheels in a 19-inch front/17-inch rear combo (a standard version is also available with 17-inch cast wheels front and back) designed to absorb rough surfaces. An adjustable 50mm inverted fork and preload-adjustable rear shock offer a comfortable ride both on road and off. Claimed dry weight is 470 lbs (213 kg).

This has a similar weight, displacement and over all size of the CB500X with a Rally Raid kit that I owned. This would be the perfect sized bike for a solo, around the world journey

Woah! that thing looks huge for a 500cc bike.At 470lbs its is definitely no lightweight… That the same as my f800gs. If your going to drop down to 500cc I would expect a proportional drop in overall size and wieght

Your right. If it were 400lb they would have a winner in my book

Agreed. The F800GS or Tiger 800 XcX give you a lot more power with roughly the same weight; however, this bike costs about HALF as much as either of those, so they could be on to something after all.

They’re onto something alright. This bike is superb, particularly relative to the cost. Benelli does it right at very affordable prices. Well done!

I own one of this, this bike can reach up to 427km distance for a single tank, but it does have some QC issue which I must say even though it’s fixable. Performance wise for single rider is good enough, handling part also good, braking for me great, suspension need to be retune, comfortable is a good point here, visibility a bit subjective as I definitely need additional light assistant(put some fog light) during night ride through the total dark area, the weight is noticeable & hopefully they will improve the next generation.

* how come there’s no further article about this bike in advpulse?

Hey mutanic, there have been no new developments on this. Benelli had confirmed they would be bringing this model to the US and we have been reaching out to them periodically ever since. Not sure if problems passing EPA is at the heart of this but the latest statement they gave us doesn’t sound promising: “At this point we haven’t made a firm decision on when the unit will come to the USA. I will,up-date you when more information is available.”

What’s Benelli’s rep for reliability?
A consideration in the backblocks or a 3rd world country.

That bike has approx the same power/weight ratio as the good old 660 tenere, which yamaha has now discontinued. So not really the ideal ratio for inspired driving. Nobody can say anything about reliability of the engine and the rest of the bike, while the 660 is mostly bombproof. For a rtw trip, if I’d need to decide between the two, my choice would be clear. In any case I would go for a bike well below 200kg if I’d plan for really tough routes! If you want to have a light and cheap bike and can live with even half the power I’d go for the honda crf250l with a larger tank and some adventurisation! That bike will easily take you further into the wilderness and back again than any +200kg monster!

I’m a truck driver. I delivered one of these to a Yamaha/SSR dealer in NJ yesterday. So it appears they have arrived in the US.
