New 2017 HONDA CRF250 RALLY Unveiled at EICMA

Honda's long-anticipated CRF250 Rally concept becomes a reality.

Published on 11.07.2016

Honda has unveiled the much anticipated adventure-focused model CRF250L Rally. With styling DNA drawn directly from the HRC CRF450 RALLY Dakar racer, the Honda CRF250 RALLY brings something new to the market. Based on the updated CRF250L 2017, the bike has long-travel suspension, large-disk ABS brakes, excellent weather protection and an impressive cruising range. Engine performance combines solid bottom-end torque with substantial top-end power.

Honda CRF250 Rally

“The rally racer replica segment is an exciting one for us, with the global, human appeal of everything that Team HRC is fighting to achieve in the Dakar Rally. We really wanted to build on the capabilities of the CRF250L and open up new opportunities for riders both young and old, and the CRF250 Rally brings the spirit of rally-raid racing to every ride.” said Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda.

The new Honda CRF250L Rally adds a wide range of changes to the standard CRF250L that makes it a unique proposition for riders. At the front, the rally-type “floating” screen, fairing and radiator shrouds provide wind protection, with the rest of the machine showing off minimal MX style. The asymmetric headlights are LED, as are the turn signals. A large fuel tank allows extensive range, and the new digital dash includes a fuel gauge and tachometer. Long-travel suspension and high ground clearance enhance its long-distance off-road ability, and a larger floating front disc—plus ABS that can be switched off for the rear brake—delivers stopping power.

The CRF250 RALLY’s 250cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC engine’s performance is focused on bottom-end torque and high rpm power, plus a linear delivery. Peak power of 18.2kW is delivered @ 8,500rpm with peak torque of 22.6Nm arriving @ 6,750rpm. The engine boasts solid bottom-end torque coupled with substantial top-end power, thanks to updates from the original CRF250L including revised PGM-FI and throttle body, a new airbox and a lightweight exhaust.

The CRF250 RALLY has been announced for US distribution and comes finished in Honda’s Extreme Red racing color as a base, with black and white accents inspired by the HRC factory machines.

Color: Red/Black/White
Price: $5,899 (Standard)/$6,199 (ABS)

33.3litre/100km can’t be correct that’s only 7 miles per gallon.

What a waste of time. 157kg , 28hp . Get off your asses and attempt something . Try doing an xr 300 rally and compete with Yamaha wr250r.
Seems no one is serious about building a light weight adv bike. Maybe Yamaha wI’ll do a wr450 r and we will all buy that.

157kg equals 346 lbs. That’s great if it had everything, but it doesn’t. The ‘huge’ 2.7 gallon tank is a let down. That’s not even 200 miles at 75 miles/gallon. Rally bikes have 400 mile range…250cc is too small for a bike this weight. If Honda was serious they’d at least bore the engine out and give it a real fuel tank.

Exactly my thoughts. I was hoping they would slap on a real tank 17L+ and at the very least the CBR300R engine. But this… Honda really? You call this a “Rally”? Joke.

And the price doesnt justify the diference between this and the CRF250L thats already out.

Kawasaki Versys-X 300 looks like a top contender for my next bike. 17L tank and a decent “300” engine, although id rather have a thumper.

… and yes i do already own a CBR300R so i know the engine is “just cutting it”.

A bike like this with a small P Twin would work well, but yeah at the very least the CBR ‘300’ engine. If Honda comes out with the CBR 350, I think that’d be an almost perfect engine to put in.

Versys 300 looks like it will do things pretty well, although it does seem slightly too street oriented. At least give it 18/21 wheels, but it also looks a tad low with not enough travel for anything serious. 10kg less would be nice (although it probably has 5kg of emissions junk to remove off the bat). It’s going to be interesting to see what the aftermarket can do for that bike.

250cc is the maximum road legal bike…some country illegal or competition only…some country pax tax as a luxury tax.

Finally this is only one concept, but doesn’t explain for what needs ABS if it’s a “Rally”bike!?

Oh dear Honda you totally missed the point and ignored all feedback from CRF250L owners…the Rally version is just a CRF250L in a wedding dress…and its an overweight bride!!

its 14kgs heavier than its sibling CRF250L and yet only 1.4 bhp more power to shift this extra weight…

Should of had a 350cc + engine…

15mm extra ground clearance is 35mm lower than it needs to be

Think this Bike is just not good enough…your much better off with the CRF250L if you intend to use this off road….
