Revamped 2015 Kawasaki Versys 650 Unveiled at Intermot

Kawasaki's middle-weight ADV bike gets styling and performance updates.

Published on 09.30.2014

Kawasaki revealed a new Versys 650 for 2015 at the Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne, Germany today. The newest version of the Versys 650 gets an updated look and several performance improvements for 2015.

2015 Kawasaki Versys 650 Updates

Styling:
The most noticeable change to the 2015 Kawasaki Versys 650 is a new horizontal dual-headlight design replacing the vertically stacked dual-headlights of the past. Styling is noticeably improved with LED lighting, updated LCD display panel and a more chiseled appearance in the bodywork.

Engine:
Engine updates offer improved power in the upper RPMs without sacrificing low and mid-range torque. The increased power output should give the sporty engine even more character than before on twisty asphalt.

Fuel Range:
Improved fuel efficiency and a larger 5.5 gallon (previously 5 gallons) tank should make a noticeable improvement in the touring range of the Versys 650.

Braking:
New brake calipers, revised master cylinder settings, new brake pads and a larger 250mm rear disc provide improved feel and stronger brakes.

Comfort:
A new cowling design offers better aerodynamics and a tall adjustable windscreen provides improved wind protection.

Suspension:
The 41mm forks now have separate rebound and preload adjustments for each tube. Adjusters are located at the top of the fork tubes for easy refinement of settings. The rear shock features an easy-to-access remote preload adjuster that can be fine tuned by hand.

Payload:
Kawasaki added a stronger rear subframe to allow for safe mounting of panniers and top case at the same time. Now riders can carry more gear for extended trips.

Great. Now it looks just like every other bike Kawi makes. I liked the old look of the Versys. It was unique and distinctive. Now it’s a V-Strom clone.

Reminds me of the Triumph 1050 Sport. I like the new look. Hopefully it is coming to America. Isn’t on the website with the other 2015 models.

We have not seen any payload numbers on the new Versys 650 at this time. Kawasaki is expected to release the full US specs at the AIMExpo in Orlando, FL on October 16-19.

Great looking bike now……even Kawi Reps at the local show admitted the old one was well ummmm not great looking. LOL.

I sat on this bike and to me it’s great, nice nimble feeling, great seating position and low intro price. For someone who’s not ready to jump to a $14k BMW or KTM this bikes gives you a lot at a very little price. For someone who’s owned a 1200GS and has a couple other bikes this bike will surprise people once it’s out. Much better IMHO for off roading then the 1000 Versys. The 1000 is more of a cheap Multistrada.
