Adventure Trip Through 7 Countries and 7000KM on KTM 500 EXCs

Exciting Preview Video of "Motonomad The Movie" by Motology Films

Published on 10.15.2013

The guys at Motology Films have produced an amazing promo for an Adventure Travel Film “Motonomad” coming out in 2014.  The Adventure Trip begins in Austria and ends in Egypt covering seven countries and 7000km in 32 days.

Surprisingly the bike of choice for the riders was not an adventure touring bike, but a small dual sport motorcycle the KTM 500 EXC. With limited gas range, lack of places to strap luggage and race tuned engine, the KTM 500 EXC seems like an odd choice.  Coming from an off-road racing background, the guys at Motology Films felt that there was no better bike than the KTM 500 EXC for the rough terrain they would cross.

Adam Riemann said, “[Their sponsor KTM] would have no doubt preferred us to ride one of their bigger adventure bike models, but I’ve been racing KTM’s long enough to know that the 2014 500EXC would be the perfect bike for the terrain we took on.”

In the film, you see the bikes are heavily loaded for the long journey and the riders are carrying large backpacks.  That is because this was an unassisted ride and the riders had to carry all of their spares and camera equipment on the bikes and backs.  They even brought along a RC helicopter for Aerial video footage that looks like it came from a real helicopter.

Surely, this is not the most comfortable way to travel by motorcycle for 7000km. But if you want to go places where other adventure riders turn back, then a light-weight dual sport like the KTM 500 EXC seems like an exciting option.  The guys from Motology Films demonstrate this by pushing through technical desert terrain that would have been impossible on a heavily loaded adventure bike. The KTM 500 EXC seems to be up for the task, as they returned from their adventure with no regrets over their choice of motorcycle.

UPDATE: Over 1000GB of video were captured on this Adventure Trip now transformed into a short film.  DVD is now available at motologyfilms.com
