Want To Own A Motorcycle Company? Carducci Dual Sport Is Selling!

Here's a chance to take over Carducci's production of its SC3 Gera Baja.

Published on 09.18.2020

Ever dream of owning your own motorcycle company? Carducci Dual Sport is selling all the manufacturing rights to its unconventional adventure bike, the SC3 Gera Baja, a true maverick among custom dual sports, powered as it is by a Harley-Davidson V-twin engine.

The SC3 was the brainchild of Jim Carducci, a custom motorcycle builder whose background in aerospace and the engineering of semiconductors for Silicon Valley tech companies makes him an especially proficient gearhead.

It’s been a yearslong process to arrive at the current version of the SC3 Gera Baja, named after Tony Gera, 2016 Baja 1000 Ironman champion, who not only brought expert input to the project, but also the riding chops to adequately torture test the prototype version of the SC3.

The bike is based around the Sportster motor, punched to 1275cc and producing over 100 horsepower. Its dry weight of 435 pounds is respectable, as is the 10 inches of travel front and rear supplied by a custom WP RaceTech setup. CDS designed the billet aluminum swingarm and Beringer the brakes, while Woodys built the Excel wheels, a 21-inch front, and 18-inch rear.  There’s a five gallon fuel tank, custom Corbin seat and BTR Moto hand-built 2-into-1 header with Leo Vince spark arrestor muffler. Other goodies include in-house crafted foot controls, skid plate and crash bars.

So what’s for sale exactly? Jim is selling the manufacturing right to the parts he’s designed, which includes detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models for those parts as well as for the complete bike, the Complete BOM (list of materials), assembly instructions, exclusive use of the SC3 Gera Baja patent and manufacturing rights. Basically, you’re buying the design, the know-how to build it and the rights to sell it.

Jim, who doesn’t at all mind being compared to Eric Buell, says he’s witnessed so much interest in the SC3 that he wants to see it handed off to someone who can concentrate on focused manufacturing, while he wants to keep his attention on what he and Carducci Dual Sport specialize in: designing, documenting, prototyping and testing new customs.

So what’s the asking price for instant moto manufacturer status? Jim told us he’s looking for somewhere in the neighborhood of $150,000 for the package, and an additional $48,000 for SC3 Gera Baja CB#1, the first and only ‘controlled build’ of the bike, reproduced using the CAD models, CAD Drawings, and Complete BOM to prove its reproducibility to spec.

“CB#1 is the only one we will sell. We’ll leave it to the team that buys the manufacturing rights to put more SC3 Gera Baja’s out onto the roads and trails. We have our SC3 Gera Baja prototype which we plan to keep. Watch for it on the desert trails or maybe it will show up at a future desert race, “ says Carducci.

Certainly, it’s a lot to bite off, but the motorcycle industry is seeing a surge of new riders and the adventure segment, a virtual tidal wave of newcomers. Definitely better to angle with something that expands the segment’s boundaries rather than replicating what’s already in abundance.

And as a bonus you’d be the first civilian to rumble around on a SC3 Gera Baja dual sport bike, raising eyebrows at stops with that potato-potato exhaust note, then roosting away like it was all in their heads.
