Here’s What It’s Like to Ride the New Africa Twin

Honda's video shows 2016 Africa Twin off-road and we like what we see!

Published on 07.22.2015

An Official Honda video was leaked today showcasing the new Africa Twin being ridden by test riders. “True Adventure Episode 6” finally reveals the new Africa Twin in action off-road and includes an interview with the engineers that designed the bike. Key features are discussed during the interview that provide insight into what makes this 2016 Africa Twin unique and how it compares to the original Africa Twin.

From the video you can see two different model colors and hear the furious sounds of the new 1000cc inline twin. Test riders seem to have no problem sliding and jumping the bike. From what we can tell the bike looks light, relatively small and appears to have an excellent off-road suspension. All good signs that the new Africa Twin could be poised to revolutionize the Adventure Touring segment once the bike is finally released.

Well of course it will be optional. Think people will be surprised at the dual clutch transmission though

Too much talk about nothing. What about practical demo and how the clutch effects riding on loose soil, jumps and terrain like sudden up hill gear change requirements or getting bogged.
Never having had that sort of clutch I have no idea how it effects riding. And yes I have a vast experience of on and off road competition but still no idea on this clutch.

They really should keep it simple; if this clutch isn’t an option… Expect NC700 sells Honda. I might just keep my CRF250L and use someone else for the big ADV bike.

Hi Guys
The DCT is optional. The Bike will come out with a Kerb weight of 205kgs which means its dry weight should be around 185kgs. This is light.

According to Honda, the curb weight is 503 lbs, or 228.6 kg. Now add the weight of crashbars, a centerstand, and passenger pegs, if you want to compare to KTM 1190R. Heavier by several pounds to KTM, but only 93hp to KTM’s 150hp..If you want the goofy auto trans from the 1000cc side by side ATV, add another 34lbs. Say wwhhaaattt?

I like the idea of DCT on an offroad bike. DCT has been around long enough that I think Honda has worked out the bugs now. Like flappy paddle gear shifters of today, they are light years ahead of what they were. Being able to put all my weight forward on the pegs and in the middle of hill climb downshift if I need to? That’s cool.
