BMW Recalls 1300GS/A, F900GS & Other Models Equipped With eCall
Emergency call system glitch could delay or prevent rescue response.

BMW of North America has issued a recall on certain 2025 F 900 GS, F 800 GS, R 1300 GS Adventure, R 1300 GS, S 1000 RR, S 1000 R, and K 1600 GT vehicles equipped with the optional emergency call system. According to the safety report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the eCall feature may have been inadvertently deactivated on affected motorcycles due to a backend error.
If the eCall (manual, and automatic in case of a crash) does not function, then the motorcycle location information can’t be transmitted. Although the rider receives a warning message in the instrument cluster after the error has occurred, it is shown only once. As a result, they may be unaware of the nonfunctionality during any subsequent incidents, potentially causing serious delays in rescue response.
BMW traced the issue back to a faulty backend update that occurred between May 26, 2025, and June 12, 2025. As a result, incorrect information was assigned to certain motorcycles within the database leading to either a deactivation or non-activation of the eCall function—depending upon the motorcycle status. This prompted the manufacturer to conduct a voluntary safety recall but BMW says they have not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Remedy
BMW says updates will be transmitted via an Over-the-Air (OTA) process to potentially affected motorcycles in an attempt to remedy the applicable electronic control unit. Owners will be notified by First Class mail and instructed to check the functionality of the eCall system and, if necessary, to take their motorcycle to an authorized BMW motorcycle dealer to have the remedy performed for free.
Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed September 12, 2025 but they can also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Those affected may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to nhtsa.gov. NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V480.
