ADV Destinations: Toquerville Falls, Utah

A Desert Oasis that’s well worth the challenge.

Published on 08.07.2025

For Adventure Riders, there’s nothing like discovering a place that’s a little off the radar, hard to reach, and absolutely worth the effort of getting there. Toquerville Falls is one of those rare finds—a secluded desert oasis tucked into the hills of Southwest Utah. Fed by La Verkin Creek, the falls cascade over tiered rock ledges into cool, waist-deep pools that beckon riders to kick off their boots and soak in the serenity.

The trail begins just minutes from Interstate 15 and you’d think looking at the map you could get to the falls in a short amount of time. But the 5-mile trail to the falls is a rocky, technical ride that tests your skills and your bike’s suspension. And that’s exactly why it’s perfect. The tough sections are over quickly and the reward at the end of the trail is achievable, even if you’re not a great off-road rider or you’re tackling it on a big ADV bike.

The route begins just outside the town of Toquerville and quickly turns into a bumpy 4×4 road littered with loose rock, ledges, and ruts. For big ADV bikes, the first few miles are the most challenging—requiring careful line selection, throttle control, and a bit of grit. Riders on lighter bikes with taller suspensions and off-road experience will find it easily manageable, but not without effort. Once you push through the rough stuff, the trail smooths out and the scenery shifts. The windy desert path opens up, and the Toquerville Falls burst into view—a lush oasis surrounded by red rock cliffs.

But this isn’t just a photo op—it’s a place to linger. On hot days, the pools offer a refreshing escape. You can lounge in natural rock recliners or take the ladder down to the lower swimming hole. Even in peak summer, the water stays cool and inviting. There’s ample space to set up camp nearby, making it an ideal overnight stop on a multi-day ride. The sound of cascading water and the star-filled sky offer a tranquil contrast to the bone-jarring ride in.

Of course Southwest Utah is chock full of places to see and this is just one of many highlights in the region. A short ride away you can find the ancient etchings of Little Black Mountain Petroglyphs, the stone remains of Fort Pearce from the Black Hawk War era, the 10,000-foot high amphitheater of Cedar Breaks, and of course the incredible Zion National park.

A short ride away lie the ancient petroglyphs of Little Black Mountain, the weathered stone ruins of Fort Pearce from the Black Hawk War, the towering amphitheater of Cedar Breaks at 10,000 feet, and or course, the iconic landscapes of Zion National Park.

Spring and fall are the best times to visit when there are mild temps but you can also stop in for a refreshing dip in the pools during the summer. Avoid the trail after heavy rains, as the rocky road and creek crossings can become treacherous.
