6D Helmets, HIT Join Forces On Real-Time Concussion Detection
Aiming to advance impact detention for safer adventures.
6D Helmets has announced a new partnership with Head Impact Trauma Limited (HIT), a company specializing in cutting-edge wearable impact recognition and software designed to provide monitoring and assessment of brain trauma. The collaboration is aimed at developing measurable ways to analyze helmet impacts and improve monitoring of brain injury risks.
6D Helmets has long been recognized for its Omni-Directional Suspension (ODS) technology, designed to reduce impact forces and lower the risk of brain injury. By working with HIT, the company plans to integrate data-driven insights into its helmets, offering real-time information about impacts and rider safety.
“At 6D, we are committed to advancing helmet safety beyond traditional standards,” said Bob Weber, CEO and Co-Founder of 6D Helmets. “Partnering with HIT allows us to explore new frontiers in real-world impact analysis and concussion detection.”
HIT currently offers their Connect device and companion app, which can be mounted to a helmet, goggle strap, or head guard. The system tracks G-force, rotational velocity, cumulative impact load, and impact location, while also providing GPS performance analytics such as speed, distance, and acceleration.
Through Bluetooth, the HIT Connect device syncs with the free HITPro app, giving athletes and coaches live data in real time. This means no more guessing after a crash—users can see exactly how hard an impact was, where it occurred, and how it stacks up against previous hits. The app also stores data offline, ensuring no information is lost even without a phone connection.
The partnership between 6D and HIT will focus on research and development, integrating HIT’s impact measurement systems with 6D’s helmet technology. “By combining our expertise in impact detection with 6D’s Helmet technology, we can create a more comprehensive approach to understanding and mitigating traumatic brain injuries,” said Euan Bowen, Founder of HIT. Beyond R&D, 6D will also help distribute HIT’s device in the U.S., making this innovative technology more accessible to riders and athletes.
