Honda Recalls Certain Africa Twin, Transalp & Rebel Models

Engine oil leak issue has led to a recall of over 1,000 units.

Published on 06.18.2025

American Honda has issued a recall on certain CRF1100 Africa Twin, XL750 Transalp and CMX1100 Rebel motorcycles due to a potential engine oil leak. A total of 1,016 units from model years 2024-2025 are affected by the recall issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

According to the defect report, a faulty crankcase sealing bolt on affected motorcycles can cause oil to leak onto the rear tire, increasing the risk of a crash. Honda traced the issue back to two problems on the manufacturing line: first, a mechanical misalignment during production that led to imperfect threads; and second, ineffective post-production quality control due to the use of a worn ring gauge to check for defects. Since the gauge was no longer reliable, it incorrectly indicated that the bolt threads met quality standards, allowing defective parts to pass inspection.

Honda reports no warranty claims in the U.S. and no known injuries or fatalities linked to the issue at the time of the recall. However, the company advises owners of affected units to watch for signs of oil leakage around the sealing bolt and crankcase area. The manufacturer has confirmed that the defect has been corrected and applied to engine production on or around February 17, 2025.
