New Triumph Scrambler 400 XC Coming Soon To North America

The UK brand adds a more-rugged model to their entry-level Scrambler lineup.

Published on 07.09.2025

Triumph is introducing the Scrambler 400 XC to its North America lineup, which will join the existing cast-wheeled Scrambler 400 X model. The new variant is part of Triumph’s wider effort to engage a new generation of riders by offering a more accessible, rider-friendly platform while still meeting “a high-level of standard specification,” says the UK manufacturer.

Like its X sibling, power comes from a “TR-Series” 398cc single-cylinder engine producing 39.5 hp and 27.7 lb-ft of torque. Technical highlights include a four-valve, DOHC cylinder head and a crankshaft that has been weighted and balanced to optimize inertia for low-speed rideability. The powerplant is paired with a six-speed gearbox and torque-assist clutch, and utilizes Bosch engine management with ride-by-wire throttle for smoother control and predictable power delivery.

Designed in Hinckley, UK, the Scrambler 400 XC draws aesthetic and functional cues from Triumph’s larger Scrambler 900 and 1200 models. Traditional design elements like a sculpted fuel tank and upswept exhaust are paired with modern features like liquid cooling.

As the more rugged variant in the 400cc Scrambler lineup, the XC model features new side-laced wire spoked wheels with Excel aluminum rims, a high-mounted front mudguard, engine bars and an aluminum sump guard. A flyscreen, handguards and 19”/17” tubeless tires complete the package.

The suspension setup features 43mm upside-down front forks and a piggyback rear monoshock, both with 5.9 inches (150mm) of travel.  A 4-piston radial brake caliper and large 320mm front disc provide stopping power, while switchable traction control and an off-road ABS mode support varied conditions.

The bike’s slim standover, low 32.7-inch (835 mm) seat height, extended wheelbase, wide handlebars, and off-road-focused foot peg placement are intended to offer assured low-speed handling and easier ability to get feet to the ground. The 400 XC does carry more weight than its X sibling though, tipping the scale at 419 lbs (190 kg) wet vs 395 lbs (179 kg).

Out front, the cockpit’s dual format instruments feature a large analogue speedometer and integrated LCD screen that includes a digital tachometer, a fuel range remaining, and a prominent gear indicator — all clearly visible in varied lighting conditions. All this functionality is accessed via an intuitive easy-to-use handlebar-mounted scroll button, and the display is pre-enabled to show the status of accessory heated grips if fitted. A conveniently located USB-C charging port allows on-the-move charging of handlebar mounted devices as well, such as smartphones and navigation systems.
