Suzuki Recalls V-Strom 1050 For Headlight Issue
Over 1,500 motorcycles recalled due to FMVSS Violation.

Suzuki Motor USA is recalling 1,543 motorcycles due to a headlight issue that fails to meet federal safety standards. The recall affects certain 2020–2025 DL 1050 models and select 2020 and 2024 GSX-1000S units.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the upper headlight beam on these models may emit light that exceeds the maximum allowable output. This excessive brightness may adversely affect the vision of the rider or oncoming drivers, particularly in low-light conditions, and poses a potential safety risk. The issue violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, which governs the performance and placement of lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment on motor vehicles.

The root cause traces back to a manufacturing change implemented on November 20, 2019. Protective tape was applied to the upper beam reflector base to prevent surface-to-surface wear. However, this adjustment elevated the reflector by approximately 0.5 degrees, shifting the light distribution. As a result, the luminous intensity at a key test point increased beyond the allowable candela (cd) limit.
