Buell To Unveil New Super Touring Model and 175-HP Dirt Bike

The brand-new models will make their debut this week at Daytona Bike Week.

Published on 02.28.2022

Back under new ownership, Buell is ready to write their next chapter with the unveiling of two new motorcycles the brand is billing as “the world’s fastest production touring bike and dirt bike.” With two sportbikes and a hill climb racer currently in their lineup, these new machines will expand the resurrected brand’s offerings to a total of five models.

Buell is set to pull the cover off the two new bikes in just a matter of days (March 5th) at Daytona Bike Week. The American brand’s most intriguing new entry for dirt fans is the Baja DR (Dune Racer) – a machine based off the brand’s 1190 HCR hill climb racer that won the 2020 AMA National Championship with Logan Cipala at the helm. Set for production in 2023, the Baja DR’s 72-degree V-twin engine pumps out a claimed 175hp and 101 ft lbs of torque.

The Baja DR will be based off of Buell’s competition-winning 1190 HCR model.

The desert racer also features a trellis frame, adjustable swing arm for a 66″ to 70″ wheelbase, and a 37″ seat height with 26.75 degree rake. Estimated retail for the model will start at $19,995 with production planned for 2023.

“The Buell Baja DR is a beast, elevating the brand to even greater heights, and will bring passion back for American-built motorcycles. It will give riders the freedom to go anywhere in the world, faster and with more power, harnessing our 1190 engine,” said Bill Melvin, CEO of Buell Motorcycle Co.

Sharing the limelight with the DR, will also be the SuperTouring 1190 model which Buell has teased with renderings since they announced their comeback a year ago. The new machine will harness Buell’s 1190cc V-twin engine producing 185hp and 101 ft. lbs. of torque and feature an upright riding position, variable mounting points for hard or soft bags, as well as room for rider customization with aftermarket touring accessories. Suggested retail starts at $21,995 with production planned for Fall 2022.

“We’ve taken the Buell DNA customers know and love, and applied it to the performance touring segment, developing a topline touring bike that will lead the American market in speed, handling and performance,” said Melvin.

Reservations for either model will go live on March 5th at 12pm EST and cost just $25. Buell will also be taking reservations on-site at the Daytona Bike Week Buell display from March 5 – 13.

The Dune Racer seems ridiculous. Do they expect to sell more than a few since you’d have to be expert desert racer to ride it? Interested to see how the Touring model stacks up.

Everyone obsessed with size and HP. In reality these bikes are hard to handle off road, people are looking for smaller adventure bikes. I believe it’s the future.

Smaller adv bikes are great off-road but pretty garbage when you push them long distance on the road. Bigger adv bikes are much more comfortable and aren’t revving to the moon on the highway trying to keep up with traffic. To be honest the fat pig touring bikes seem to sell much better though. I ride a ktm690 Enduro because it feels like an Enduro bike on the trails but practical enough to take some distance, I really can’t truly adventure with it long distance though because of the small fuel tank, single cylinder, riding position, storage options, etc. I need to get a bigger adv bike now for the long stretches… Lol.
