KTM Unveils 390 Adventure With Spoked Wheels For 2023

Spoked wheels will now be available as standard equipment.

Published on 01.31.2023

Following news of the 490 twin project being canceled by KTM, the orange brand has announced the return of the 390 Adventure with an upgrade many fans of the entry-level machine have been asking for ― spoked wheels. The change not only enhances the look of the small-bore adventurer but also beefs-up its durability off-road.

The 19” front and 17” wheels are characterized by KTM as heavy-duty and light, featuring black anodized aluminum rims shod with Continental TKC70 tires. For bump absorption, the bike is equipped with WP Suspension APEX hardware which is adjustable for compression and rebound up front, along with preload and rebound in the rear. Thanks to ex-Baja Champ Quinn Cody, who helped develop suspension specs for the Americas and Europe, the 390 has good spring rates and a range of damping settings so you aren’t stuck with whatever comes from the factory.

At the heart of the machine is the same 4-stroke 373cc single-cylinder engine pumping out 43 hp at 9000 rpm and 27.3 ft-lbs of torque at 7000 rpm. Two catalytic converters ensure the system breathes within emission targets while the 3.8-gallon fuel tank offers enough range to hang with larger adventure bikes.

Other features include Ride-by-Wire, Motorcycle Traction Control, Cornering ABS, Offroad mode (more rear wheel slip), linked Offroad ABS (disengaged on the rear, reduced on the front), a 5” color TFT-display with bluetooth integration, LED lights, a windshield with two positions and Brembo BYBRE brakes (320 mm front and 230 mm rear discs with four-piston calipers on the front).

KTM is also giving the 390 Adventure a fresh look for the new model year with the introduction of new graphics, which the Austrian brand says come from its “racing background.”

2023 KTM 390 ADVENTURE highlights

  • NEW 19” front and 17” rear spoked wheels paired with CONTINENTAL TKC 70 tires.
  • NEW  graphics and colors for 2023.
  • Advanced rider aids with Street and Offroad modes for Traction Control adjustment.
  • 373.2 cc DOHC engine with balancer shaft, PASC slipper clutch and a Ride-by-Wire throttle and optional Quickshifter +.
  • Ultralight trellis frame.
  • Bolt-on trellis subframe strong enough to carry a passenger and luggage.
  • WP APEX 43 mm fork with separate damping functions: compression on the left side, rebound on the right.
  • WP APEX shock absorber with adjustable spring preload and rebound damping for varying load and terrain.
  • BYBRE brakes.
  • 14.5 liter (3.8 gallons) fuel capacity.
  • Tapered aluminum handlebar.
  • LED headlight and taillight.
  • Multifunctional dashboard with full-color 5” TFT display.
  • Cornering ABS with Offroad ABS function to deactivate ABS on the rear wheel and reduce ABS intervention on the front.

Pricing and Availability

The new 2023 KTM 390 Adventure with spoked wheels has an MSRP of $7,399 USD, which is $600 more than the 2022 model with cast wheels. Unlike North America, Europe will get both the cast and spoked wheel versions for the new year. The new model will begin hitting US dealer floors this March. For more information go to KTM.com.

It’s awesome that KTM is continuing to bring affordable, well made, and well appointed adventure bikes to the market.

This is a bike guys will get for their wives and then ride it themselves at any opportunity they get, because the 390 platform is such pure brilliant fun.

Spoked wheels were already available as an extra, so what’s new?

Couple questions. 1) Can the traction control totally be turned off? 2) Are the spoked wheels tubeless?

Hey Jeff, 1) Yes 2) KTM didn’t mention if they were tubeless in their announcement so can’t confirm or deny at the moment. But if they are the same ones offered previously as a PowerPart they aren’t tubeless.

Yes they are according to the picture they have a double wall and the spokes don’t go threw the inner wall according to what’s i see in the pic. This isn’t confirmed but they look tubeless. Look at the picture of the spiked rims with no tires mounted no spoke nipples going threw.

Ok maybe not that might be just the rubber band that goes around the fork nipples but on the Husqvarna svartpilin 401 which is essentially the same bike as the 390 they have spoke rims and I’m almost positive those are tubeless so you would think that these would be too they just switched from a 17 to 19 front .
