BMW Unveils The 12 R/S GS Trophy Competition Bike For 2026
A specially prepared R/S that is ready to take on Romania’s backcountry.
BMW has revealed the R 12 G/S GS Trophy Competition Bike, a purpose‑built machine prepared for the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2026. When the event returns to Europe in late summer, teams will face Romania’s dramatic mix of mountains, forests, rivers, and remote villages, a landscape that seems tailor‑made for technical riding and long days off‑road. The competition bike has been developed specifically for this environment, drawing from the R 12 G/S platform and outfitted with a comprehensive list of factory accessories selected to meet the demands of the event.

Although designed exclusively for the GS Trophy, the machine is based on the production R 12 G/S and carries a configuration that riders can largely replicate on their own. BMW equips it with the Comfort Package, adding Hill Start Control, Gear Shift Assist Pro, heated grips, and cruise control. The bike also features Headlight Pro with adaptive cornering light and Riding Modes Pro, expanding its capability when conditions shift from fast gravel to tight forest trails or rocky climbs. For the off‑road core of the competition, the Enduro Package Pro brings off‑road tires, an 18‑inch rear wheel to replace the standard 17-inch, and handlebar risers, giving the bike a more competition‑ready stance and improved control in technical terrain.

Protection and durability upgrades are central to the build. Engine protection bars and reinforced cylinder head covers help safeguard the boxer engine during drops or impacts, while a Rally‑style cockpit fairing with navigation preparation reflects the navigational challenges of the GS Trophy. An Akrapovič silencer adds a performance‑oriented touch, and a 5‑liter tank bag, repurposed as a rear bag, provides quick‑access storage for rider essentials during the event.

BMW notes that the GS Trophy Competition Bike is not available for purchase in this exact form, but customers can recreate it with only minor differences (e.g. decals) using the accessory catalog for the R 12 G/S. The base color Lightwhite uni is paired with blue tank tapes and a red seat, a combination that the manufacturer says brings the BMW Motorrad’s Motorsport DNA to the surface and underscores the bike’s sporting purpose.
