Zero Motorcycles is preparing a significant upgrade to its charging technology, announcing that Level 3 DC fast charging will arrive on their new Dual Sport and Street models in 2027 — and, notably, as a retrofit option for thousands of existing owners.  

The company says its new CCS port and fast‑charging module, currently under development, will deliver a 20% to 80% charge in under 30 minutes on motorcycles equipped with batteries up to 17.3 kWh. For riders, the improvement represents a meaningful reduction in wait time and a broader range of real‑world travel possibilities.

A key part of the announcement is Zero’s decision to make the new system available not only on future models but also as a retrofit accessory for 2022‑and‑newer Dual Sport and Street motorcycles. That approach gives current owners access to next‑generation charging capability without replacing their bike, addressing long‑term ownership value and responding directly to customer demand.

Zero CEO Pierre‑Martin Bos says the move aligns with the rapid expansion of fast‑charging infrastructure across Europe and North America and reflects the company’s commitment to supporting riders throughout the ownership lifecycle. He notes that DC fast charging is an important benefit for attracting new riders to electric mobility while also increasing the value of existing motorcycles by offering a major upgrade path.

Zero already offers one of the quickest Level 2 charging systems in the segment. Select models can be upgraded from the standard 6.6 kW configuration to 12.6 kW using the company’s Rapid Charge System, reducing typical 20%–80% charge times to under 45 minutes compared to 1.4 hours without it. The upcoming Level 3 module pushes that benchmark further, dropping the same charging window to under 30 minutes and giving riders a faster, more flexible way to stay on the move.

The new CCS port and DC fast‑charging module are planned to launch alongside Zero’s 2027 Dual Sport and Street models, with retrofit availability arriving at the same time. For a brand with more than two decades of electric‑motorcycle development behind it, the addition of Level 3 charging marks one of its most significant infrastructure‑focused upgrades yet, aimed at both attracting new riders and strengthening the experience for current ones.
