Alpinestars Dakar-Tested Airbag System Available To Public Soon

Soon Alpinestars’ off-road Airbag Tech will no longer be exclusively for elite racers.

For more than a decade Motorcycle Airbag technology available to the public have been primarily for the street but with Alpinestars announcement of the launch of their all-new Tech-Air Off-Road V2 autonomous Airbag System, that’s about to change.

The next-generation airbag system is just one of the latest additions to the Alpinestars’ Tech-Air family. With the launch of this new off-road-specific airbag system, the manufacturer will now enable riders of all disciplines to benefit from a standalone, wearable garment featuring all of the protection that advanced airbag technology can deliver.

Since 2001, Alpinestars has been an innovator in street-based airbag development, which culminated in a MotoGP system in 2011 and later consumer products for the street. And as far back as 2016, the brand has been datalogging crashes from motocross racers in an effort to develop a fool-proof crash detection algorithm that can differentiate serious off-road accidents from typical light tip overs and scuff-ups.

Alpinestars-supported rally racers have been testing the Tech-Air OFF-ROAD Airbag technology since 2018. Prototype systems were also used successfully for the first time at the Dakar Rally in 2019 and 2020 subsequently.

Version 1 of the Tech-Air Off-Road was put in use with factory Dakar Racers during the race in 2021. Since then, the off-road system has undergone rigorous testing in some of the most grueling Rally Raid conditions. Moreover, Alpinestars says this latest V2 system offers the highest level of protection for off-road riding and it will be made available to the public for the first time later this year.

Questions still remain about the Tech-Air Off-Road system, which has only been used by elite racers up until this point. Is it easily recharged in the field? And will the price be out of range for most riders?

Alpinestars is showcasing their latest Airbag systems at the Consumer Electronics Show this week in Las Vegas so if you are in the area, swing by their booth for a demo of the technology.

We look forward to getting a Tech-Air Off-Road V2 Airbag System for evaluation as soon as they become available and we’ll be sure to share more details on this innovative safety tech as we receive them.

This system immobilizes the head and neck, I’m not understanding the complaint? Have you not seen pictures or video of it inflated?
