Aprilia Unveils New Tuareg 660 ‘Rally’ Model At EICMA

A model forged in the heat of the Italian brand’s rally raid triumphs.

Published on 11.05.2024

If you are a fan of the Tuareg 660 you probably know Aprilia has been riding a wave of success at major rallies with their race-ready bike, notably clinching the win on its debut at the Africa Eco Race. It is from those testing grounds that Aprilia now brings to the public the Tuareg Rally — a specialized machine derived from the competition version, targeted for dirt fans who crave next-level performance.

The new Rally production model was developed by Aprilia in technical collaboration with the Guareschi brothers’ GCorse. Also involved in the development of the new machine was Aprilia rider Jacopo Cerutti, who rode the race version to the top podium at the grueling AER. “The goal was to make it as similar as possible to the bike with which we won the Africa Eco Race, and I can say we succeeded,” said the rider from Como.

Cerutti’s experience has been particularly useful in providing feedback on the electronics, leading to the creation of a new engine map that delivers a quicker and more decisive throttle response. He also played a key role in the chassis adjustments, resulting in a fork that offers better support and a shock absorber that absorbs potholes at speed more effectively, improving the bike’s overall stability.

While the Kayaba suspension also offers the standard version’s 9.4 inches (240 mm) of travel, the Rally features springs with a linear elastic constant K instead of a progressive one. Although this slightly compromises comfort, Aprilia says it significantly improves off-road riding feel and gives the rider greater control over rough terrain. The stiffer suspension also reduces static sag, making the Tuareg Rally taller and effectively increasing its actual suspension travel.

The Tuareg Rally rolls on heavy-duty spoked wheels with Ergal narrow rims shod with tube-type knobbies. Riders will also enjoy a dedicated SC Project exhaust system, complete with a fully titanium silencer featuring an aggressive, racing-style end cap with a generous 60 mm outlet. The wheel assembly and exhaust system contribute to reducing the Aprilia Tuareg Rally’s overall wet weight from 450 lbs (204 kg) to 439 lbs (199 kg).

The Tuareg Rally offers a high front fender and a new, thicker aluminum skid plate, designed with a more protective shape and a deliberately rugged finish for better mechanical impact resistance. Additional protections include sturdy hand guards with metal cores plus a new chain guide also comes standard.

To improve off-road control, special attention went to the rider’s ergonomics, with a seat that is 20 mm higher to make transitions between seated and standing positions easier and a taller handlebar with a redesigned shape for better handling.

The Aprilia Tuareg Rally comes in the Rally race replica color scheme, closely resembling the design of the victorious Tuareg that crossed the legendary Dakar finish line. The Tuareg Rally’s package is completed with gold-anodized forks, wheel rims, and handlebars.

New Changes Across The Tuareg 2025 Range

The updates to the Aprilia Tuareg presented at EICMA 2024 are not limited to the debut of the Rally version; all models benefit from new styling and technical features introduced alongside compliance with Euro 5+ regulations.

To improve overall efficiency, the 660 twin-cylinder engine now boasts 52 mm throttle bodies, up from the previous 48 mm. In addition, the new rare-earth generator reduces inertia, enhancing acceleration performance.

While still retaining its distinctive appearance, including the horizontally arranged triple headlamp, the Tuareg’s functional design has been revised, particularly around the headlamp cluster, which now features a sleeker superstructure without the lower lip.

The range of original accessories for the Aprilia Tuareg has been further augmented. Tuareg Rally-specific items, such as heavy-duty spoked wheels, a reinforced skid plate, and a chain guide, are now available as accessories for the standard Tuareg.

The extensive catalog also includes a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensor. The comfort seat — available in three different heights (standard, raised by 2 cm, and lowered by 2 cm) — now incorporates heating elements and can be easily controlled via the handlebar once the Aprilia MIA multimedia platform accessory is installed.

The 2025 Aprilia Tuareg is available in two new liveries, both featuring a red-painted frame. Tornado Green and Hailstorm White. Pricing for the Tuareg 660 will be $12,499 USD ($15,195 CAD) and the Tuareg Rally will be $14,499 USD ($17,195 CAD). Both are expected to start arriving at US dealers May of 2025 while Canada is still TBD.

But did they make it similar enough to have 48mm forks? This would bring it in line with the bike that was actually raced as well as the Ducati and KTM Rally models.
