Kawasaki Unveils New KLE650 With More Power & Touring Capability

KLE line gets more power, electronic aids, cruise control, and tubeless wheels.

Published on 10.27.2026

Kawasaki is expanding its new KLE adventure motorcycle family with the introduction of the 2027 KLE650 ABS and KLE650 SE ABS, bringing a larger 649cc powerplant and additional touring-focused features to the recently launched KLE lineup.

Building on the KLE500 platform, the new KLE650 adds more power and technology, while the SE version further upgrades the package with features such as a quick shifter, TFT display, tubeless spoked wheels, and additional touring equipment.

Powering the new model is Kawasaki’s next-generation 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. Derived from the company’s established Versys 650 middleweight platform, the engine features ride-by-wire throttle, revised intake and exhaust systems, and electronic rider aids not found on the KLE500.

The jump in displacement gives the new model a claimed 70 horsepower at 8,600 rpm and 47.2 lb-ft of torque at 7,500 rpm, compared to the KLE500’s 51 horsepower and 31.7 lb-ft. That represents gains of roughly 37% in horsepower and 49% in torque, improvements that should be especially noticeable during highway cruising, passing maneuvers, and fully loaded adventure-touring. An Assist & Slipper Clutch comes standard as well, helping reduce clutch effort while smoothing aggressive downshifts.

Chassis, Suspension, and Brakes

Like the KLE500, the new KLE650 uses a steel trellis frame paired with a 21-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel combination. Suspension consists of a 43mm inverted fork with 8.3 inches of travel and a Uni-Trak rear suspension system offering 7.7 inches of travel.

While overall dimensions, seat height, and suspension travel remain largely similar to the KLE500, the larger engine and additional equipment result in a wet weight of 467.5 pounds, approximately 40 pounds heavier than the smaller model.

Braking performance receives an upgrade as well. The KLE650 uses dual 300mm front discs, whereas the KLE500 relies on a single 300mm front rotor. Selectable ABS comes standard and can be disabled when riding off pavement.

One specification Kawasaki has yet to release is ground clearance, leaving open the question of whether the company addressed one of the more commonly discussed limitations of the KLE500 platform.

The KLE650 adopts styling influenced by rally-raid motorcycles, featuring a tall front fairing, adjustable windshield, compact LED lighting, and bodywork designed to promote rider movement when riding seated or standing. A stepped seat, removable footpeg rubber inserts, and a 34.2-inch seat height round out the package.

Additional Electronics and Rider Aids

The KLE650 lineup also gains several electronic features unavailable on the KLE500. Standard equipment includes Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) with two selectable modes, electronic cruise control, and ride-by-wire throttle control. Traction Control Mode 1 offers minimal intervention for sportier riding, while Mode 2 provides increased assistance in slippery conditions.

For riders who spend long hours on pavement between destinations, the addition of standard cruise control may be one of the bike’s most significant upgrades over the KLE500.

KLE650 SE ABS Adds Touring-Focused Upgrades

For riders looking for additional comfort and convenience, the KLE650 SE ABS builds on the standard model with a long list of equipment upgrades.

Those additions include Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS), a USB-C charging outlet, metal-reinforced handguards, a larger aluminum skid plate, a windscreen that is 106mm taller, oversized 1-1/8-inch aluminum handlebars, a 5-inch color TFT display, and tubeless spoked wheels.

The standard KLE650 uses a 5-inch LCD display, while the SE upgrades to the TFT unit and adds navigation-compatible functionality through Kawasaki’s RIDEOLOGY app ecosystem.

Pricing and Availability

The 2027 KLE650 ABS will be available in Pearl Blizzard White with an MSRP of $8,799, while the KLE650 SE ABS carries an MSRP of $9,999 in Pearl Storm Grey/Metallic Bluish Green. Both models are expected to arrive at dealerships in February 2027.

Compared to the KLE500, the standard KLE650 commands a $2,299 premium, while the SE-to-SE comparison results in a $2,500 difference. Interestingly, riders considering a fully equipped KLE500 SE and a standard KLE650 will find only about a $1,300 gap separates the two models.

The jump to the KLE650 SE model adds $1,200 to the price of the standard KLE650. Given that the package includes a quick shifter, TFT display, tubeless wheels, upgraded protection, USB-C charging, and a taller windscreen, it appears to offer good value for riders planning longer-distance travel.
