The Pharaons International Cross Country Rally (Rallye des Pharaons) is an FIM-sanctioned rally raid event that takes place in Egypt, with Cairo being both the start and finishing point at the foot of the pyramids of Giza, and covers roughly 3,100 kilometers (1,900 mi) through the Sahara Desert. It is similar in format to the Dakar Rally in that it takes place in desert conditions and cars, trucks, and motorcycles are all permitted to compete.
Pharaons International Cross Country Rally takes place in the desert of Egypt and it is scheduled when the weather is not too hot during the day and there is low risk of sandstorms. The Pharaons’ organization is located in Italy and is led by a passionate team of Italians, French, Belgian and Egyptians who are represented by their office in Torino (Italy). The event has been going on for more than fifteen years.
The Rallye des Pharaons was born in 1982. The event became part of the FIM World Championship in 2000. The Pharaons International Cross Country Rally new name keeps the charme of the past and it gets introduction into the FIA World Cup in 2005.
