Dakar Finisher Enters ‘Baja Rally’ on KTM 1090 Adventure R

2014 Baja Rally Champ Scott Bright ready for new challenge, racing Big Bikes!

Published on 08.29.2017

Dakar Rally finisher Scott Bright is bringing the big guns to the BAJA RALLY this October. Aboard a KTM 1090 Adventure R, he is ready to take back his 2014 title – in the Adventure Class no less. He wants to prove not only the capability of this big Adventure Bike, but of himself too.

“I am really excited to be going back to the BAJA RALLY! It has been a long time coming. 2015 and 2016 brought me several injuries but at the same time saw me through the Dakar Rally. And now I’m ready to take on the BAJA RALLY on KTM’s 1090 Adventure R. It’s a very capable bike, and I am out to prove it. The bike is just that good.” – Scott Bright

The BAJA RALLY is a world-class off-road navigation race fashioned from the infamous Dakar Rally. BAJA RALLY strives to be North America’s most prestigious Rally Raid and has attracted a number of Champion riders over the years, including Steve Hengeveld, Quinn Cody, Cameron Steele, Andy Grider and Johnny Campbell to name a few. The competition consists of four different racing classes: Rally Pro, Rally 1 (amateur), ADV Expert and UTV. This year the Baja Rally has been expanded with an extra day of racing to four stages, covering 932 miles (1,500 km) across the Baja Peninsula.

Bright is no stranger to Off-Road Racing. He’s spent years competing in such races as ISDE, the Sardegna FIM Rally, and the Dakar Rally. In 2016, Scott launched the Shady Burro Enduro to further share his passion for off-road racing. And after a short hiatus, Scott will be back in Baja October 9th – 14th to show us that two broken arms, a broken pelvis and three years can’t keep him off the podium. The ADV Class is still filling out, but Scott will be joined by XLADV’s Eric Hall on a KTM 990 Adventure and Cyclops Adventure Sports’ Wes VanNieuwenhuise on a KTM 950 Super Enduro.

Even though Scott will be competing on a much larger machine this year, we expect him to have the overall win in mind when the flag drops. And after completing his quest for waypoints, stage wins and glory, he won’t be done putting miles on his KTM 1090 Adventure R. Once the ceremony has died down, he’ll be adding a set of panniers and his lovely wife Cindy on the passenger seat. The two plan to explore the Baja Peninsula all the way down to the tip, putting the versatile 1090 Adventure R to yet another test: Adventure Touring.

Stay tuned to BAJA RALLY’s social pages – Facebook and Instagram – to follow Scott’s progress and show your support for his fellow competitors.
