2017 V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 650XT Receive Key Updates

New enhancements for 2017 bring more unity to the Suzuki V-Strom line.

Published on 10.04.2016

Ever since the release of the new V-Strom 1000 in 2013, the Suzuki V-Strom 650 has shared only a subtle family resemblance to its big brother. And without a major design update on the DL650 line since 2012, it was starting to look a bit dated. Today Suzuki unveiled a fresh look for the 2017 V-Strom 650 at the Intermot motorcycle show, along with several new feature updates.

Gone is the twin split headlight design, replaced with a single headlight housing with two vertically stacked headlights. And a new wind-tunnel tested touring windscreen that is 3-way height-adjustable, will be included on both models. The new styling changes ensure all four V-Strom models will have a unified design.

Updates for 2017 aren’t all about looks though. Changes to the 645cc V-Twin engine have resulted in enhanced power and torque. The engine has also been updated to meet the new Euro4 emission standards.

In addition, 2017 V-Strom 650 models now offer a 3-mode traction control system and a new ‘Low RPM Assist’ feature that helps riders launch more smoothly. Suzuki’s ‘Easy Start System’ is another new convenience for 2017, that makes for easier engine starts. Plus, a slimmer seat and fuel tank help make touching the ground easier for shorter riders.

The more off-road-focused V-Strom 650XT gets the same updates as the standard V-Strom 650 for 2017, but now comes standard with hand guards and a bash plate.

Both the V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 650XT will be available as 2017 models in European and North American markets. You can see the new models on display this week at the INTERMOT show held in Cologne, Germany from October 4th to the 9th, 2016. Color and Pricing for the V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 650XT are TBA with units hitting US dealership floors in February 2017.
