Explore Idaho's wild backcountry on a premium Adventure Motorcycle Tour.

Published on 02.25.2021

The Heart of Idaho ADV ride is a premium tour through Idaho’s wild backcountry. This is a loop ride, inspired by the Backcountry Discovery Routes, that starts and ends in Boise, Idaho. MotoDiscovery has chosen select segments of the official IDBDR route, combined with spectacularly (and curvy!) scenic tarmac sections, to create a unique 1,400-mile, 8-day journey with mile after mile of riding pleasure.

This ride is well suited for dual-sport/adventure motorcycles in the 400-1250cc range and prior off-pavement riding experience is required. Should you ride (or would like to rent) one of the larger ADV designed bikes (such as the Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L) it would be necessary to have the skills and experience to manage the performance and physical size of these machines. We recommend attending a MotoDiscovery Rider Training Tour if you would like to gain additional off-road skill and confidence.

  • Starts and ends in Boise, Idaho: Idaho International Airport offers many direct flights from major cites, allowing fly-and-ride convenience.
  • Endless Twisty Roads: You have to ride it to believe it. Idaho has some of the most remarkable twisty tarmac roads in the country that follow beautiful massive rivers such as the Salmon, Clearwater and, the Lochsa Rivers.
  • The Lolo Motorway: One of the main highlights of the trip, the Lolo Motorway was used by Lewis and Clard and follows the route used by the Nez Perce Indians to reach the buffalo hunting grounds of the Great Plains.
  • Tiny off-the-grid towns: Weave in and out of civilization on the very remote IDBDR. Visit ecclectic little towns such as the small mining town of Warren, Elk City and treasures such as Burgdorf Hot Springs.
  • Wildlife is abundant: Keep your eyes open for wolf, elk, moose, grizzly and black bears, mule deer, marmots and beaver.
  • No bad roads in Idaho: Paved or unpaved, you are able to chose on most days your level of challenge. If for any reason you are uncomfortable, count on the MotoDiscovery team to offer alternative riding routes that will also put a smile on your face.
