Barkbusters Release New Handguard Kit For H-D Pan America
Robust, model-specific handguards offer an easy install and improved durability.
While Harley’s Pan America has quickly become a popular machine for adventure riders looking for on and off-road versatility in a liter-plus bike, it does need some help in protecting it against trail abuse. One key area is the hand guards, which the Pan America does not come with standard. Even those that come with the ‘Special’ model leave something to be desired. Like many stock handguards, they are made of soft plastic and are primarily designed for wind and light brush protection. They also use a c-clamp style attachment on the bar ends that looks like it is designed to pop off in a fall.
A good set of adventure bike handguards should not only protect your hands from the wind and elements, but tree branches and rocks as well. They should also protect your clutch and brake lever from snapping off in a fall. Barkbusters is one of the top names in handguards, known for their durability. The brand recently announced they were adding new model-specific handguard kits for the Harley-Davidson Pan America to their growing lineup, and now the first shipments have just arrived.
The hardware kit comes with a stout aluminum support bar (or backbone) that is heat treated for additional strength, while attaching at two points for a full wrap around design. This robust structural base ensures they resist bending or being pushed out of position when your bike, at some point or another, hits the ground. In addition, the kit includes a set of bar-end weights that help quash vibes emanating from the 150 Horsepower Revolution Max V-Twin, and since the kit is model specific, that means it installs easily with no fuss and a guaranteed fit.
Included with the kits are your choice of either Jet, VPS or Storm guards, giving you a wide variety of colors, designs and sizes to choose from. For those looking for a streamlined look, go with the Jet. VPS guards offer a variable-height wind deflector while the aptly-named Storm guards give you maximum wind and cold-weather protection.
Prices range from about $150 to $180 depending on the guard design you choose. Check out the full details on the website.
