Backcountry Discovery Routes has announced the release of its eleventh route – the Wyoming Backcountry Discovery Route (WYBDR). This new multi-day off-pavement experience spans from the border of Colorado to Montana and covers some of the most rugged landscapes Wyoming has to offer. With 48% of the state being public land, the WYBDR is the most remote adventure of all the BDR’s to date.

Wyoming Backcountry Discovery Route GPS tracks

Created for dual-sport and adventure motorcyclists, this epic 950-mile backcountry route leads riders through five mountain ranges and explores vast high-desert regions on public dirt roads and primitive double-track. Expect scenic views, endless forest roads under a canopy of trees, high-desert terrain, flowing curves, rocky expert-only sections, and alpine elevations reaching 11,000 feet.

Riders will traverse two major rim escarpments and pass through many seldom visited areas and historic mining towns. The route regularly throws unexpected challenges at riders, and almost every section includes some technical riding, so BDR recommends those new to off-road riding not attempt it.

According to the BDR, the entire route will take around 6-7 days to complete depending on your riding style. “Keep in mind that you will face challenges along a route of this length – so work in at least one bumper day or even a rest day. Allow time to get back to your starting point after completing the route at the remote Montana state border,” adds the BDR.

WYBDR Route Tracks, Maps

The Wyoming Backcountry Discovery Route release includes GPS tracks and route travel information, which can be accessed on the BDR website free now. A printed waterproof map produced in collaboration with Butler Motorcycle Maps is currently available for purchase.

BDR-X: A New BDR Concept

The BDR community has been asking for more routes, and, specifically, for routes that loop. So in addition to the classic BDR routes, in 2022 BDR is introducing the BDR-X. A shorter, BDR-style route that loops.

A BDR-X may be an excursion off of an existing route or something entirely new in an area where there’s yet to be a BDR route. BDR-X’s will be designed to only take a few days to ride and BDR plans to rollout multiple routes in the coming years, starting with the Red Desert, Wyoming BDR-X.

The Red Desert BDR-X tracks are available on the BDR website.  A print ready PDF of the Red Desert BDR-X map and a short video will be available following the route release.

WYBDR Documentary Film & Tour

A documentary film, directed by Sterling Noren and produced by BDR Documentary Films, will premiere to the public this Saturday February 5th at Blackmore Ranch — one of the coolest moto-inspired venues in Southern California. ADV enthusiasts and industry professionals alike will gather for a night of catered food and refreshments with inspiring scenes of riders exploring some of Wyoming’s most majestic regions flickering on the big screen (get your tickets click here).

The film tour continues through May at various motorcycle venues, dealerships and clubs across the country. So far, the BDR is planning to include over 50 cities in the tour.

Dealerships and motorcycle clubs interested in hosting a film event are encouraged to contact the BDR to reserve their date of screening. New dates are being added on a regular basis, so check back if you don’t see a location near you.

Free Film Public Release

The BDR organization has decided to make its latest WYBDR film available for free on YouTube after the film tour is complete on May 1st 2022. This decision was made to help broaden the availability of the film to the community. Free distribution is a more environmentally friendly approach and also eliminates the costly process of producing, storing and distributing DVDs.
