Garmin Launches New Zumo XT2 With Enhanced Navigation Features

Next-gen Zumo XT2 gets a larger screen, buddy tracking, new nav features & more!

Published on 04.20.2023

Garmin has announced the most advanced addition to their line of purpose-built motorcycle navigators ― the next-gen Zumo XT2. This new moto-specific GPS boasts a tougher exterior and enhanced navigation features for on and off-road expeditions.

One of the features that makes it stand out from the pack is its sizable 6-inch display, giving riders a 15% larger screen than the previous model. This glove-friendly touch screen is not only bigger but also delivers a brighter HD resolution in landscape or portrait mode. And with durability in mind, the XT2 is not only built to withstand extreme weather conditions thanks to its IPX7 water-resistance rating but is also equipped to endure handlebar vibrations on and off-road.

An upgrade riders who enjoy traveling with friends will appreciate is the new Zumo XT2’s buddy location option. You can now keep track of friends on the ride via the Group Ride Mobile feature which allows you to track everyone’s location using the Tread app. When no cellular coverage is available, you can use the Group Ride Radio accessory (sold separately) to track and talk with friends. You can also see popular moto paths preferred by other riders and view the adventure with high-resolution, subscription-free Birdseye Direct satellite imagery to discover new routes to ride.

Manage tracks and routes across your smartphone or Zumo XT2 navigator, plus access real-time traffic, weather and smart notifications when paired with the Tread app. The XT2 also gives access to ride details to help improve the journey, including speed, acceleration, deceleration, elevation and more with the ride summaries feature via the Tread smartphone app. A returning feature is the Garmin Adventurous Routing, which lets you adapt your route from point A to B by skill level with four different difficulty options.

To unlock two-way messaging, you can pair the XT2 with Garmin’s inReach satellite communicator, which also enables location sharing and SOS capabilities in case of emergencies outside the grid. You also have the option of enabling on-screen control of the motorcycle’s 12-volt electronics with a Garmin PowerSwitch digital switch box.

Other features include voice navigation prompts, rider alerts along the route and music streaming. The XT2 also lets you make hands-free calls with a Bluetooth connection from a compatible headset/helmet (not included), while paired to a compatible smartphone. You also get 32 GB of internal storage which can be expanded to a max of 256 GB with a microSD card.

The new Garmin XT2 is available now with a suggested retail price of $599.99. To learn more, visit garmin.com/zumo.

I wonder if they still make you buy the maps / updates separately.

Only if you need a map that the device doesn’t come with.

Garmin has good Hardware, but forever crappy Software for a User Interface. For instance, ask them when they will enable moving map weather radar. As In: Unobtanium! Dont get me started on the web based Explore interface. I’m on my 3rd year of off road enduro riding with the 1st gen XT. The deal maker .vs any other phone or dedicated moto gps is, and remains, the daylight readable display. You can see this one at a glance in full sunlight. No one else has that. I keep my XT permanently disabled from the web based features. A hard No Thanks. If I cant find / see my buddies, I stop and wait for them. If needed, I turn around, go back and help them pick it up. No fancy electronics needed, and it does not do any lifting anyway. A bigger brighter screen? I can get behind that! Ummm, when I buy my next one when Garmin decides I dont deserve any more map updates (they advertise “lifetime maps”, but *they* decide what that means. They mean, support lifetime of the unit. No kidding).

Garmin products sucks. I sold my XT and upgrade my smartphone for another with IPX 7 rate, a Pixel 3XL. Spent 130 on it. 1000 times better than Garmin XT outdated hardware…. I pair it with my Sena intercom and have an amazing experience instead of living OUTDATED GARMIN EXPERIENCE…For the price of XT 2 YOU CAN BUY A TOP NOTCH PIXEL 6.!! Garmin has been stealing my money for many years with old new stuff and short supported devices, but now I havei mich better experiences for much less money. Goodbye Garmin

The specs say the XT2 has ioverlander which is one of the reasons I purchased this unit. It does NOT have ioverlander. I called Garman and they said, it was a typo in the specs..sorry too bad so sad for you. The XT2 is also not compatible with backroad gps maps. It will calculate to 80% and sit at 80% for 20 is min and then say unable to calculate a route. I don’t feel the XT2 is a upgrade. Had I known the ioverlander and backroads issues I would have purchased the proven XT.
