Icon Releases All-New Variant Pro Adventure Helmet

The Popular Icon Variant gets updated with more functionality & less weight.

Published on 09.26.2019

It’s hard to believe the Icon Variant helmet has been around for over a decade. Now the distinctive adventure helmet has been redesigned and renamed the ‘Variant Pro’ for Icon’s Fall 2019 gear lineup. With a refined fit, improved functionality, and lighter weight, the new Variant Pro builds on its successful lineage.

The Variant Pro’s unique toolless shield change system is effortless and intuitive. A two-stage process allows you to swap shields in a matter of seconds, removing all guesswork, so you can get back to riding. On the road, the shield’s Fog-Free coating keeps your field of vision clear on rainy or cold riding days. A wind tunnel tested peak reduces drag and buffeting even better, and its dual density EPS core maintains a slimmer profile.

Internally, the traditional three-piece liner has been upgraded to a five-piece liner, providing a greater amount of fitment combinations for each unique head shape. Crown, lateral, fore and aft padding components allow for 27 fitment combinations in a single shell. The Variant Pro’s venting system has been completely redesigned for improved airflow to the interior at both low and high speeds. Eight different intake vents and two large exhaust ports works in conjunction with the sweat wicking Hydradry liner to effectively reduce heat build up.

Another unique feature of the new Variant Pro is a set of cut outs on the sides of the helmet. These are said to help direct airflow up and to the back of your head. Also something to keep in mind is the Icon Variant Pro, like the old Variant, has more of a street-focused design that features a smaller eye port. Even so, according to reports some smaller-framed goggles can work with the new Variant Pro with or without the face shield installed.

The new Variant Pro is available now starting at MSRP $350 in solid colors, up to $400 in graphics.

Variant Pro Features:

  • Handcrafted composite shell
  • Weight: 3 lbs, 10 oz in medium (3 ounces lighter than the previous version)
  • Sculpted neck roll reduces jacket/suit interference
  • Five-piece modular liner with moisture-wicking HydraDry
  • Wind tunnel tested and refined anti-lift visor
  • Low-profile vents throughout the shell
  • Integrated chin EPS air channels reduce shield fogging
  • Quick change fog free shield
  • Removable chin curtain
  • Intermediate-oval headform
  • Safety standards: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (EUROPE), SAI AS1698 (Australia) and SG (Japan)
