Leatt Expands Adventure Gear Line With New ADV Rally 5.5 Suit

The new suit promises lightweight flexibility, high ventilation & easy-wear protection.

Published on 01.29.2025

Adventure gear needs to be just as versatile as the adventure bikes we ride, posing a unique challenge for manufacturers as they strive to combine the strengths of street, touring, and off-road gear. While some suits aim to cover all bases, it’s often wiser to select gear suited to the conditions you favor.

Since entering the adventure riding apparel market last year, the South African-based company Leatt has continued to expand its lineup, offering highly protective suits tailored for wet weather, summer heat, and all-season riding, as well as ADV boots and its first-ever adventure helmet. Now, to kick off 2025, Leatt is introducing the ADV Rally 5.5 Jacket and Pants — a highly versatile suit intended for riders who favor more athletic, enduro-minded endeavors.

At the heart of the ADV Rally 5.5 Jacket design is its adaptability, allowing the wearer to choose different configurations to meet specific preferences and environments. The jacket—constructed from a rugged 4-way stretch material—and its liner, for example, form an integrated protective system, with the X-Flow mesh liner housing CE Level 1 3DF impact foam in key areas, including the back, shoulders, and elbows (with an option to add a chest protector).

The ADV Rally jacket includes a removable inner armor jacket featuring CE Level 1 3DF Protection in key areas, including the back, shoulders, and elbows (with an option to add a chest protector).

While the liner’s Level 1 armor is appropriate for commuting or light adventure touring, it carries a EU Class A rating and might not be ideal for aggressive off-road rides where you’re more likely to take a hit. And here’s the cool solution: the shell can be instantly disengaged from the liner, along with its built-in elbow, shoulder, back, and optional chest protection, and thrown on over an enduro-worthy body protector, such as Leatt’s progressively more serious 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 Rally armor systems.

The inner protection liner can be completely removed from the jacket shell, allowing the rider to switch to a full body armor protection if preferred.

Additionally, on warm days, the shell’s sleeves—from the biceps down—can be zipped off to aid cooling, and in certain situations, you might even wear the padded mesh liner on its own. Whatever option you choose,  a series of wide hook-and-loop cinches on the jacket’s sides allows for a tailored fit over the bulkiest body protector options. The jacket is additionally equipped to properly secure any of the neck brace systems that first put Leatt on the map.

On warm days, the shell’s forearms can be quickly zipped off.

Using lightweight ripstop 4-way stretch material for the shell is also a wise choice, not only for its ability to accommodate quick and dramatic changes in body position, but also for providing a draft-free, ergonomic fit that enhances comfort. The shell is coated with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent (DWR), which offers a higher level of breathability than a truly waterproof design, while abrasion-resistant CE Level A material has been applied to likely impact zones.

To provide ventilation when both the shell and inner liner are employed as a single unit, the main front zipper can be adjusted to mate with a second zipper, exposing a mesh panel along the length of the zipper that provides maximum airflow to the torso. Additional zippered vents are located in the underarm and right chest areas and work in tandem with a large, full-time rear exhaust vent, shrouded by a flap, to expel heated air. A toggle cinch at the back of the jacket’s collar and hook-and-loop material at each cuff can be adjusted to seal out—or invite in—airflow.

Adventure riders love their pockets, and the ADV Rally 5.5 has its fair share, including two large cargo pockets backed by hand-warmer slits, as well as a left chest pocket that are all lined for water resistance, while an unlined right chest pocket serves its main duty as a vent.

On the lower back of the ADV Rally 5.5 Jacket is a large, water-resistant lined cargo pocket, along with a vertical compartment designed to hold Leatt’s 2L hydration bladder. The hydration tube is threaded through internal channels, exiting at the shoulder, where it secures to a clip located on the jacket’s right chest area for easy access while riding.

On the rear of the jacket is a dedicated 2L hydration bladder pocket.

Made from the same proprietary DWR-coated ripstop 4-way stretch material as the jacket, Leatt’s ADV Rally 5.5 Pants feature CE Level 1 3DF soft-shell impact protection on the hips and knees, and the knee inserts can be adjusted for height to properly accommodate a variety of leg lengths. The stretch and flexibility of the pant legs also allow for ready acceptance of a variety of knee braces when the included knee protection is removed.

The outer shell material, reinforced in impact areas, and X-Flow mesh liner of the pants are permanently mated, but large CE-rated vertical vents on each thigh, designed to be operable using one hand, allow for temperature regulation. The stretchable 5.5 ADV Rally Pants are intended to be worn inside your riding boots, while a hypalon belt system with micro-adjusters tailors the fit at the waist. Large water-resistant cargo pockets are located on each thigh, with a dedicated zippered phone sleeve conveniently positioned atop the right pocket.

As with Leatt’s 5.5 ADV Rally jacket, the new enduro-style pants carry an EU Class A rating, signifying they meet the basic standards for abrasion and impact resistance. While this rating is less advanced than some of the company’s more robust AA and AAA offerings, Leatt demonstrates confidence in the ADV Rally’s durability with a 5-year warranty.

The new 5.5 ADV Rally Jacket retails for $399 and comes in men’s sizes S to 3XL, with three color choices that include reflective details: “Gray” (mostly white with cool orange and red accents), “Burn” (dark orange with gray), and the ubiquitous “Stealth Black.”

The corresponding 5.5 ADV Rally Pants sell for $299 and come in black with reflective details, in sizes S to 4XL.

To complete the ‘fit, a pair of ADV Rally 5.5 Gloves, equipped with ReaFlex impact gel protection for the knuckles and fingers are also available. The slim-fit gloves provide full-time ventilation, memory foam padding on the palm, and a seamless application of NanoGrip material for secure throttling. Additional features include a pre-curved fit, touchscreen-friendly fingertips and a hook-and-loop adjustable cuff. The Rally Gloves are available in Stealth Black or Burn, in sizes XS to 3XL, for $64.99.
