Meet The All-New 2021 KTM 450 Rally Replica

KTM unveils their all-new dune-eating 450 Rally Replica for 2021.

Published on 07.22.2020

KTM has just unveiled their new 2021 450 Rally Replica, the customer version of the KTM factory rally machine. The replica model is almost identical to those ridden by Dakar winners Matthias Walkner, Toby Price and Sam Sunderland featuring components that provide the performance level directly requested by these rally raid champions. This is a limited-edition motorcycle designed to excel in and win multistage cross-country rallies.

The 450cc SOHC fuel-injected engine received an increase in power for model year 2019, which carries over to the new model as well. KTM has not provided horsepower numbers after the power boost but for reference, the 2016 450cc rally bike we tested pumped out a claimed 68 hp.

The KTM 450 Rally Replica is fitted with WP XACT PRO 48mm closed-cartridge forks using sophisticated Cone Valve technology. The reworked transmission has the exact same ratios as the Dakar Rally winning machines of the KTM Factory Racing team.
The bike features a lightweight, high-tech trellis frame made of chrome-moly steel. The rear self-supporting 16 L fuel tank doubles as the subframe.

The motor is wrapped in a competition-based chassis with a series of finer details to denote the exclusivity of this machine. Those specs include purposeful aerodynamics and ergonomics crafted for peerless handling across a wide breadth of terrain. The limited-edition bike also features a refined WP XACT PRO closed-cartridge suspension with sophisticated Cone Valve technology. These high-performance components offer a stiffer suspension setting to further fine-tune the exceptional handling of the rally bike.

For 2021, KTM has honed the engine package with a brand-new gearbox and a revised shift mechanism for greater gear spread. The direct influence of PANKL Racing Systems materials inside the KTM Motorsport department meant technicians were able to further increase the bike’s excellent reliability. This is a bike that was greatly influenced by the habits and styles of the three Red Bull KTM Factory Racing riders, who assisted in the finalization of gearing ratios. The result is that the KTM 450 RALLY REPLICA now comes with the same gear ratios as those advocated on the machines of Dakar Rally champions.

The Akrapovic exhaust is tuned to work perfectly with the updated engine and airbox. The silencer is short and sits low for better mass centralization.

“With this model we have already set the bar very high in giving the customers a product so close to what we prepare and take to rallies across the world. Of course, we always make new discoveries, and this means the 2021 bike is a significant upgrade. The gearbox construction and configuration will make a difference to the riders who want to push the KTM 450 Rally Replica. It is crucial for us to be able to transfer what we learn directly into the hands of KTM riders. I personally look forward to seeing this incredible machine in racing action at the upcoming 2021 Dakar Rally!” — Stefan Huber, KTM Factory Racing Rally Team Leader.
