How To Achieve Backside Bliss On Long Motorcycle Rides
8 Tips to help you maximize your seating comfort on long adventure rides.
5. Padded Shorts
Some riders may not have much built-in padding of their own and need a little help to keep from getting sore. Padded cycling shorts are one way to give yourself a little extra cushioning, but sometimes the tight fabric can cause discomfort on long motorcycle rides. Also, the padding may not give enough coverage for an upright seating position and the tight elastic around the thighs can become irritating over time.
A low-cost option we’ve had good luck with are the Baleaf Realtoo Coolmax padded cycling shorts. We like these because they provide a lot more foam padding than your typical cycling shorts. They also don’t cover your full thigh, so they fit more like boxer underwear. There is no tight elastic around the leg openings and the polyester/spandex material is very breathable. We have only tested them on a few rides, but so far they seem to be comfortable and durable. At a price of just $12 US, it’s hard to beat the value these padded shorts offer.
A new padded shorts product line made by Moto-Skiveez are designed to solve seating discomfort issues faced by motorcyclists, not cyclists. They even have a product designed specifically for Adventure Bike Riders, the Adventure Skiveez.
The padding in the shorts is positioned for an upright riding posture and the area covered is much broader than your typical padded cycling shorts. These high-tech padded motorcycle shorts have multiple densities of foam for different areas in the shorts to optimize comfort. Special pads in the inner-thighs counteract friction experienced during off-road riding from repeated standing and sitting.
We had a chance to complete a full review of the Adventure Skiveez and were thoroughly impressed with how well they performed. Check out the Moto-Skiveez padded motorcycle shorts review here.

I use a Russell Day Long seat on my V-Strom. It is an awesome, totally 100% comfortable seat no matter the miles or the hours in the saddle.
I have an xr650r the stock seat was killing me after only riding 1/2 hour, I got a seat from seat concepts , night and day difference, I can ride all day now!
I’m using a Saddlemen Adventure Track on my KLR; it’s the only expensive piece on the whole bike. However, with that seat installed, I can ride for 10 hours w/o needing to visit the ER for monkeybutt-syndrome thereafter. It was worth every penny.
