KTM Issues Another Recall On Their New 390 Models
Both 390 Adventure R and Enduro R are affected by faulty side stands.
KTM has issued another recall for its new 390‑series models, this time due to a potential failure of the side stand spring. According to the company, the problem is limited to bikes equipped with forged side stands and “does not affect other side stand types.” The models involved are the 390 Adventure R, 390 Adventure X, 390 Enduro R, and 390 SMC R.
KTM describes the move as a “proactive safety measure,” noting that internal inspections found engine vibrations could cause the spring to break. If that happens, the side stand can drop while riding, which would activate the related kill switch and suddenly stall the bike.
Owners are being asked to visit an authorized KTM dealer to have the side stand spring replaced and a rubber protector added. The Austrian brand adds that dealers will also install a new side stand sensor retaining plate, which changes the trigger range of the side stand switch to make it less likely to be inadvertently activated.
Models Affected
- 2025 (and 2026 outside North America) KTM 390 Adventure R
- 2025 (and 2026 outside North America) KTM 390 Adventure X
- 2025 (and 2026 outside North America) KTM 390 Enduro R
- 2025 (and 2026 outside North America) KTM 390 SMC R
For anyone who needs to ride their bike to the dealership before the repair is done, KTM suggests temporarily securing the side stand with a rubber band or something similar to keep it from dropping while riding.
KTM will notify affected customers by mail. Owners can also verify whether their motorcycle is included in the recall by using the VIN lookup tool in the Service section of KTM’s official website, where a full list of authorized dealers is available.

As of this writing, this recall does not appear on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) database. This often occurs when manufacturer notices are released before NHTSA processes the campaign, especially when the recall is newly issued like this one. In some cases, recalls begin as manufacturer‑initiated service campaigns and are added to the federal database only after all regulatory steps are completed. In any case, if your VIN shows your bike is affected, it’s best to get the repair done as soon as possible. The work is performed free of charge through KTM’s authorized dealer network.
