Royal Enfield Teases All-New 450cc Himalayan and Announces Launch

It’s official! The next-gen adventurer will break cover this Fall.

Published on 08.18.2023

Well, we can’t say we didn’t see this one coming. For more than a year now, endless spy shots and video of a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 have been making the rounds across the internet, with a sighting as recent as this month showing the bike being tested with accessories. The latest news though comes from the Indian manufacturer itself, who has not only made a teaser video available but also revealed a press launch date for the all-new adventure machine.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 arrival confirmed

The next-gen model, which will feature the brand’s first liquid-cooled powerplant, will be shown to the media at the end of October and the brief teaser reveals that 32.2432° N 77.1892° E is where the bike will be ridden. Bringing the debut full circle, the coordinates point to Manali, the same city in Northern India where the first Himalayan 411 first broke cover. The teaser also gives a taste of how the engine sounds for the first time.

No other details have been provided by Royal Enfield but the numerous sightings of the bike have given away some clues about what the Indian manufacturer has up their sleeves. First up, the next-gen adventurer will boast an entirely new 450cc single-cylinder engine. The powerplant is expected to give the 24-horsepower Himalayan a notable power increase, rumored to jump to around 40 hp.

Spy shots have also revealed a switch from telescopic to upside-down forks, all-LED lighting, a brand-new digital instrument cluster as well as tweaks to the chassis. The test mule was also spotted to be equipped with a new switch, which is speculated to indicate the presence of rider aids.

The new bike is expected to make an appearance at this year’s EICMA in November. No launch date has been announced for America but given the popularity of the current model, it wouldn’t be surprising if the next-gen machine arrives on our shores at the beginning of 2024.

I will be looking for this one. Hoping for a nut ‘n screw valve lash adjust, but not holding my breath. 40 HP is my personal lower limit for off road ADV, but it’s there. (Enough to keep the ride interesting, not enough to feel like it will kill me if I twist too hard too fast). I like the way singles develop power alot! Much better than small twins.

I will be getting a bike late fall or maybe wait for this one. I liked the seating on the Himalayan 411 but 70mph highways have turned me off and instead looking G 310GS. I know not much faster than Himi but seen lots of good versatility in the GS the 411 just doesn’t have, but the 450, that might be worth waiting for, oh, damn that Triumph Speed 400 has my attention too.

I don’t know where you are Don but I’m hearing very good things about the Fantic Caballero 500 Rally from owners here in the UK. I can imagine the new Triumph being the most expensive of the lot.

Are they ever going to come out with anything bigger. I’m 6’4 and 280.

You’ve nailed it Wesley. I’m similar specs (and a beginner) and haven’t come across much that seems to suit the bigger rider.
Suggestions anyone?
