Ducati Adds Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour Variant to 2020 Lineup

New Multistrada packed with touring equipment & ready for longer journeys.

Published on 10.23.2019

The 2020 Multistrada family has a new member: the Grand Tour, a special version of the 1260 S, specifically designed for those who want to eat up the miles in maximum comfort. Making the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour easily recognizable is its dedicated color scheme and a range of premium touring equipment included standard.

As the name suggests, the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour was designed for serious travelling and features a center stand, panniers and a special-edition seat standard. To keep even the more demanding adventurers comfortable, the Grand Tour comes with heated grips, additional LED auxiliary lights, a hands free gas cap, and tire pressure monitoring sensor that constantly feeds data to the dashboard display. All of this additional equipment is included for $2,000 (€1500) more than the standard Multistrada 1260 S model.

The 1262cc Ducati Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) engine and the 4 Riding Modes make the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour both the perfect everyday runabout and a trusty tourer, even on long-distance adventures with passenger and luggage. In fact, with 85% of the twin cylinder Testastretta DVT torque already available at 3,500 rpm, riders have all the oomph they need. The Ride-by-Wire throttle system keeps the impressive maximum power of 158 hp (at 9,500 rpm) and maximum torque of 95.5 ft-lbs (at 7,500 rpm) under smooth control at all times while the four-bikes in-one Riding Modes ensure the Multistrada adapts perfectly to road and rider alike. When launched back in 2010, the Multistrada stunned the motorcycle world with its multibike concept: four bikes in one, from sports bike to long-distance tourer, from everyday bike to enduro.

According to the Italian marque, a combination of carefully-engineered chassis geometry and 17″ alloy wheels lets the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour glide through bends while ensuring maximum stability even with a full passenger+luggage load. What’s more, Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up & Down lets you ride clutchless and carefree as you weave through the mountains.

When it comes to the as-standard electronics package, the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour is packed to the brim. An IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) platform feeds the control unit vital information on bike attitude and speed to ensure proper operation of ABS Cornering, the Cornering Lights (DCL) incorporated in the full-LED headlight assembly and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC). Riders can set both DWC and DTC to one of 8 different levels, or simply deactivate them. Also as-standard on the Multistrada 1260 S Grand Tour is Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) and the semi-active Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) Evolution system, also featured on the Multistrada 1260 S.

As on all Multistrada 1260 models, the Grand Tour features cruise control for carefree motorway journeying; all the rider has to do is set the desired cruising speed via the left-hand switchgear buttons. Also as standard is the Bluetooth module that, via the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), lets riders connect the bike to a smartphone and control key multimedia functions (incoming calls, music) via the switchgears and display the relative info on a 5″ high resolution color TFT dashboard that takes interface user-friendliness to the next level.

The Multistrada 1260 Grand Tour has a Hands Free gas cap that can be opened without using a key. It also boasts long maintenance intervals: the oil only needs changing every 15,000 km while a Desmo Service is required only every 30,000 km. The result? Carefree riding, even on the longest adventures.
