First Look: Baja Designs Dual S1 Headlight Kit For The Suzuki DR & DRZ

Light your way with 4600+ lumens from this compact plug-n-play lighting kit.

Published on 06.30.2023

If you are looking to up your Suzuki’s lighting game, Baja Designs’ latest kit for the DR-Z400 and DR650 is designed to pack a punch in the smallest package. Called the Dual S1, the headlight kit features a high/low adapter harness that is plug-and-play with the factory headlight plug, making for easy installation.

Within the set, each S1 features a single Cree LED producing 2,320 lumens of output while being less than half a pound. With the use of two S1’s — one S1 Spot and one S1 Wide Cornering — this kit has a dual-function running light and factory high beam that emits up to 4,640 lumens combined and 19.6 watts draw per light.

According to the California-based lighting specialist, the Dual S1 Headlight kit provides the rider the perfect blend of close up and  distance when needed. “The addition of the kit turns your bike’s mundane old regular DR-Z halogen light into a bike with enough light to rip down to Baja,” states Baja Designs.

Looks like another fine solution to upgrade the sad DR headlight. I installed a JNS LED head light plus two 1K lumen 30 deg. spot pods on mine about 5 years ago and it was a massive improvement. I’m sure the Denali would be too.

A very nice lighting solution by Baja Designs. A fair price too. I have no need of it, having switched to a single Cree LED 22w no fan type (H4, I think), from ADVMonster. Be sure to check that these do not need fans for cooling. My .02 is, the 40w design is still less current draw than the standard halogen oem bulb, so that’s good. The DR /DRZ stator is weak-ass, especially the DR. The regulator is parallel shunt type, so a series regulator helps keep excess heat out of the oil cooling, and more power available for other stuff, if that helps where you live (like, Tucson AZ).
