REV’IT! Releases Sand 4 Adventure Suit With a Range of Updates

The latest Sand ADV suit gets upgraded for more comfort and versatility.

Published on 08.30.2021

The Sand Adventure Suit has been around for more than a decade now and continues to be a staple product in REV’IT!’s adventure touring gear lineup. Key to its longevity and popularity are its technical features that give it four-season usability, along with rugged off-road protection, at a mid-range price point. For 2021, the Dutch brand continues to find new ways to push the Sand suit envelope with the release of version four in the series. With a continued focus on improving design, protection, and utility, the Sand 4 H20 Jacket and Pants get a big boost in versatility.

In this latest evolution of REV’IT!’s most popular adventure suit, we get a range of upgrades in ventilation, fit and function. Significant attention has been put on improving the venting, starting with a new set of chest vents on the jacket that can now be opened up much larger and snapped in place. Another innovative treatment is a long thin vent that goes down the front of the jacket along the zipper, that pushes cool air to the body down the entire length of the torso. The Sand 4 pants also get new snap zippers on the thighs, designed to keep them opened wide and draw more air in.

The Sand 4 gets wide-opening chest vents and a long zipper vent along the length of the jacket.

As far as fit, the design has been updated to improve how it contours to the body while still keeping a comfortable loose feel. Various adjustment straps and tabs on the arms, legs and waist have been refined to ensure you can get a custom fit, with or without the liners installed. This also secures the elbow and knee pad armor in place in the instance of a fall. The jacket and pants are now made with ripstop material throughout for improved tear, cut and abrasion resistance and the entire garment gets a CE certified AA rating.

In terms of functionality, the Sand 4 receives a new snap-back collar that is easier than the previous ‘hook and loop’ system to operate with gloves on. Plus the front pockets on the Jacket and cargo pockets on the Pants are now zippered instead of Velcro to help ensure you don’t lose anything during your rides. Even more useful, is the new ‘Destination’ waterproof Liner that can be used standalone, and all these new improvements come with just a $10 price increase over the Sand 3 suit.

A waterproof inner liner is now wearable as a standalone garment off the bike.

Like its previous iteration, the Sand 4 comes with Seeflex CE Level-2 molecular armor in the knees, shoulders and elbows, along with Seesmart CE Level-1 pads in the hips. To extend the protection of the Sand 4, you can add the optional CE Level-2 back protector and also strap on a REV’IT! Neon vest or neck brace to the 5-point external webbing system built into the jacket.

To handle various types of climates, the Sand 4 uses a modular approach starting with a breathable, vented shell that provides abrasion and impact protection. The system gives you the flexibility to add either the waterproof or thermal liners, or both, depending on the weather you encounter. Or you can ride with the shell alone in hot weather or even light rain and store liners away until you need them.

Speaking of storage, the jacket still comes with a large rabbit pouch on the back which is a convenient place to store a layer and there are the aforementioned four external zipper pockets which are designed to be water resistant. Plus the pants have one additional zipper pocket in front on the right side. If you need a fully-waterproof pocket to store electronics or important documents, you can use the waterproof liner’s inner chest pocket.

To complement the new upgraded vents on the chest and thighs, the suit includes long zipper vents along the length of the arms for excellent cooling while riding in the standing position. Two back vents also help dissipate moisture and keep cool air moving through the jacket, plus the Jacket and Pants can be connected with a zipper for additional safety. A combination of big YKK zippers and Velcro flaps make getting in and out of the suit easier, while offering enough adjustability in the pants to accommodate motocross boots.

First Impressions

REV’IT! Sand 4 Adventure Suit

We’ve been testing the new Sand 4 suit on a number of different rides and have been impressed with how much more air it moves with the new venting scheme. The improved vents were especially appreciated during our summer rides in the high desert where temperatures reached 117°F (47°C) at times. No suit is comfortable at those temperatures but when riding in just the Sand 4 shell, it maintains a light and breathable feel for warmer weather and the liners are quick and easy to install when cooler temperatures arrive.

The new cut of the suit also offers a more comfortable, contoured fit than the previous Sand 3 and the stretch material of the inner liner jacket has a nice feel to it. Using the new destination liner as a jacket by the campfire means one less thing to pack, and it looks more like a regular jacket than the old mylar blanket-style Sand 3 liner.

We’re also trying out the optional REV’IT! Segur integrated neck brace with the Sand 4. It connects to the jacket with Velcro straps and makes putting on your neck brace much more convenient. It’s one of the most comfortable neck braces we’ve tried and we’re happy to have the additional protection. We look forward to using the Sand 4 on our upcoming journeys and we’ll report back with more details!
