Stay comfortable on long motorcycle rides

It can be exciting to push your limits and test your endurance on long motorcycle rides. But after spending many hours in the saddle, a sore backside can make it hard to enjoy your Trip of a Lifetime. When you are uncomfortable during a ride, your trip memories may end up being more about how much pain you were in than how many unique experiences you had. You don’t have to suffer if you know how to improve your seating comfort.

There are many things that can cause your rear end to get uncomfortable on long motorcycle rides. Maybe your stock seat feels like it’s made of wood or it could be moisture causing skin irritation. Some people just aren’t born with much built-in padding as well. We’ll look at eight different ways you can remedy a sore bottom that will have you riding with a smile.

Depending on your body type, you may find some techniques work better than others. We recommend you try out a few of the inexpensive options first to see if you are able to improve your comfort to a satisfactory level. Sometimes it takes a combination of options before you are able to achieve backside bliss.

I use a Russell Day Long seat on my V-Strom. It is an awesome, totally 100% comfortable seat no matter the miles or the hours in the saddle.

I’m using a Saddlemen Adventure Track on my KLR; it’s the only expensive piece on the whole bike. However, with that seat installed, I can ride for 10 hours w/o needing to visit the ER for monkeybutt-syndrome thereafter. It was worth every penny.
