Dunlop D605: New Budget-Oriented Dual-Sport Tires
North America gets new 50/50 dual-sport tire for the price-conscious rider.
Dunlop has introduced the D605 to North America, a DOT-legal knobby designed for dual-sport riders who like to venture on technical off-road terrain. This street-legal knobby is being marketed as a versatile 50-50 on/off road tire, offering Adventure performance at a value-oriented price.
The D605 features a full-depth tread pattern designed for rigorous off-road use. Dunlop claims the new tire offers great traction on everything from hard-packed fire roads to soft single-track trails. These all-around tires also provide riders with a more affordable alternative to the D606 and seem to take aim at the budget-oriented Kenda K270 and Shinko 244.
This tire joins the more aggressive D606 in Dunlop’s line of dual-sport tires aimed at small and mid-displacement bikes. At this point, Dunlop has not announced any plans to release a 19″ front. For more information go to Dunlop’s site.

I found Dunlop’s 803 in a 2.75 x 21 works on a rim slated for 90-90 x 21. That model of tire is border line for running on hot pavement and if not balanced 95-100% true the tire wears weird. Not to forget mention vibration over 60mph.
Willing to give these 605’s a shot for long travel on loose and hard packed gravel if the price is right.
Difference between a 90-90 or 80 – 100 x 21 and the 2.75 is like night and day handling once balanced properly!
These tires came from the factory on my 2011 Kawasaki KLX250S. They were… barely passable. So unless the rubber compound or something else has changed, I’d stay away from them.
I threw a set of these on my bike last fall and spent part of the winter breaking them in. Now in the spring and 500 miles later, these tires are awesome and exactly as advertised in the blog. If you’re hardcore about dirt, you’ll want a knobby, but if your bike is a little bit of everything, its a great tire for the buck.
