BMW Motorrad Breaks Its All-Time Sales Record, Big GS Top Seller
The historic milestone sets the stage for the release of several new models in 2025.

BMW Motorrad is entering the new year with a skip in their step, reporting the sale of 210,498 new motorcycles in 2024 — the highest bike sales result in the manufacturer’s history. This milestone follows BMW’s announcement at EICMA of their plans to further expand their presence in the premium motorcycle market with several new models in 2025, including the much-awaited F 450 GS adventure bike.

The new record includes 118,727 motorcycles sold in Europe, making it the strongest sales region for BMW Motorrad. Not surprisingly, the company’s home market of Germany pulled the highest figures with 26,177 units sold — an increase of over 8% compared to the previous year. Outside Europe, the USA gave the most sales to BMW (17,272 units), followed by Brazil (15,267 units) and China (13,872 units).

The bestseller for BMW was the big GS boxer line, with over 68,000 customers worldwide choosing an R 1300 GS, R 1300 GS Adventure or BMW 1250 GS machines. These models continue to be the backbone of BMW’s lineup, remaining popular throughout the evolution of the platform and despite the increased competition in the segment.
The refreshed F-series made a significant splash as well, with a total of 40,890 units sold across its range, including the BMW F 800 GS, F 900 GS, F 900 GS Adventure, F 900 R, and the F 900 XR. Other successful drivers were the all-rounders in the sub-500cc displacement segment with 22,339 units of the models BMW G 310 GS, G 310 R and G 310 RR sold across all markets.
Looking back on their significant achievement, BMW is optimistic about sustaining their growth this year. Their expansion plans are notably ambitious, as the company has promised to introduce an impressive 17 new models in 2025. This includes their entry into the 450 two-cylinder segment with the debut of the F 450 GS.

“Our market leadership in numerous segments is based on our claim to innovation, our highly attractive product offering as well as the consistent strategic focus on brand strength. Based on these successful drivers, BMW Motorrad is well-positioned for the future and so I approach the year 2025 with a very positive outlook,” added Markus Flasch, head of BMW Motorrad.

meanwhile in Austria, KTM is bellying up.
Wrong article. This story is about BMW.
It’s still interesting that KTM is sitting on almost an unsold one year production, while BMW achieves record sales numbers!
Would have been interesting to see a breakdown between the 1250 and 1300!
Yeah, nobody has written about that comparison…
The bike I most regret selling was a low-mile 2006 F650GS Dakar with a sweet YZ426 upside-down fork conversion, and since the day I watched the buyer who handed me more money than I bought it for (how often does that happen?!) ride off on it, I have always felt like I would someday have another GS.
