KTM Unveils 1390 Super Adventure S With Manual Transmission
The Austrian brand unleashes a second version of its flagship Adventurer.
Purists who are fans of KTM’s flagship adventure bike can breathe a sigh of relief. Days after unveiling the 1390 Super Adventure S EVO with semi-automatic transmission, the Austrian brand has pulled the cover off the ‘S’ model ― a version featuring a traditional clutch and manual gearbox.
The KTM 1390 Super Adventure S sits as the more street-oriented model in the line-up, boasting a 19”/17” cast wheel combo. It also comes standard without KTM’s 5th generation Front Radar, giving riders the option to add this feature as an extra.
Besides these differences with the EVO, the Super Adventure S shares much of the same features of its range-topping sibling including a revised 1350cc engine producing a claimed 170 hp punch and 107 ft-lbs of torque. Additionally, the new model receives reworked engine components, and all-new Camshift technology that KTM says provide improved rideability in the lower rpm range, higher peak performance, lower emissions, and less fuel consumption.
Specifically, camshift technology provides variable-valve timing with two individual cam profiles. At higher revs, the inlet cams shift sideways, opening the valves longer and higher for more gas flow into the cylinder for higher performance, while in the lower rev range, the inlet cams have a reduced valve timing and lift. This results in a noticeable increase in rideability in both normal road conditions around town and high-performance use on fast roads.
Like the EVO, the 1390 Super Adventure S offers 7.9 inches of suspension travel and is fitted with WP’s latest Semi-Active Technology. Tuned to be more precise with consistent damping behavior at higher frequencies, the SAT uses new PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) sensors and a new through-rod fork construction to achieve refined handling dynamics.
The Super Adventure S frame also sees an increase in stiffness, improving handling and track stability. For improved comfort the footrest mounting position has been lowered by 8 mm for a wider knee angle, while being moved 10 mm outwards for better contact and feel when standing on the pegs.
The fresh model also receives KTM’s new premium electronics package, with an all-new V80 portrait-mount touchscreen, TFT dashboard leading the way. The 1280 x 720 resolution V80 Touchscreen features inductive technology, allowing easy operation even when wearing thick winter gloves, while an innovative Anti-reflex, anti-fingerprint and anti-glare coating improves overall readability. Here, riders have access to all new Ride Modes, Connectivity features, and KTM’s optional Adaptive Cruise Control upgrade, which adds Brake Assistance, Collision Warning, and Distance Warning to its arsenal.Other revisions include an all-new LED headlight with cornering lights, new windshield with up to 70 mm of adjustment, and more storage compartment.
According to KTM, the new 1390 Super Adventure S will be available at authorized KTM dealers overseas early 2025. Availability in North America will be a year later for the model year 2026.
