Pro Rider Morgan Kaliszuk Takes Bike On Water Adventure

Video shows snow bikes aren't just limited to adventures on land.

Published on 01.16.2017

Carving dune faces, flying through the woods, or cruising dirt roads, it’s all great fun on an off-road bike but how about taking your off-road adventures beyond the dirt?

Over the years, it has become easier to add a ski and track to your motorcycle and transform it into a nimble snow bike that can give a snowmobile a run for its money in terms of sheer riding pleasure. Videos of riders cutting through powder and sailing over alpine ledges, like skiers freed from the constraints of gravity, are all over the Internet. Some have also taken their snow bikes through brief treks on the water but Canadian freestyle rider, Morgan Kaliszuk, has taken what is possible on a stock snow bike to a new level in his water riding video.

Fitted with a Yeti SnowMX kit that replaces the wheels with a ski and track, Kaliszuk kicks his two-stroke Yamaha, pins the throttle and skillfully shoots right into a huge body of water and into the horizon. If you’ve seen Robbie Maddison’s “ground” breaking video “Pipe Dream” you get the idea. Maddison was on the ocean and his bike was equipped with a highly customized set up that included a paddle tire rather than a track, but the idea is similar: pin the throttle and don’t slow down.

Will dirt bikes now be challenging the personal watercraft market too? Probably not just yet. When the snow melts, we’d still rather take the ski and track off and put the wheels back on. But a snow bike zipping across the water would definitely impress your riding (and fishing) buddies. Just make sure to keep the throttle cranked until you’re back on dry land. And don’t run out of gas.

Bob has been riding motorcycles since age 19 and working as a journalist since he was 24, which was a long time ago, let’s put it that way. He quit for the better part of a decade to raise a family, then rediscovered adventure, dual sport and enduro riding in the early 2000s. He lives in Arkansas, America’s best-kept secret when it comes to riding destinations, and travels far and wide in search of dirt roads and trails.
