Yamaha Introduces Tenere 700 ‘Extreme’ For 2024

The Japanese manufacturer takes the popular adventurer to the next level.

Published on 10.17.2023

Yamaha has expanded their popular Tenere 700 range yet again, this time with a model the manufacturer says is “aimed at riders with motocross or enduro experience who want added performance.” Dubbed the Tenere ‘Extreme,’ the fresh model boasts premium KYB suspension and a range of dirt-focused chassis components while taking the standard model to new heights with more ground clearance than any of the previous variants.

For bump absorption, the Ténéré 700 Extreme features premium fully-adjustable KYB suspension systems with 20 mm extra travel front and rear for a total of 9.1 inches (230 mm) and 8.7 inches (220 mm) respectively. For smooth front suspension action, the 43 mm forks are treated with a durable Kashima coating that helps to eliminate stiction at lower speeds plus the gold colored fork inner tube finish underlines the bike’s overall feeling of quality.

The Extreme also gets the highest ground clearance in the Tenere range; dethroning the World Rally variant at 10.2 inches (260 mm). As expected, this also contributes to raising the seat height to a whopping 35.8 inches (910 mm).

I don’t understand why don’t they offer World Rally variant here. USA is a huge country with endless dirt roads.

What I’d like to see is a low version, to make it easier for shorter riders. Much like Triumph does with its Tiger 900 GT low. Slap on a 19” front and slightly short suspension.

People don’t even know how to ride the original Tenere, nor take it off road. Great to have options nonetheless.

The one thing they could have done was change the muller location.

The different versions are getting hard to keep up with unless you’re in North America of course.

Not for a bike that is off-road focused. On technical terrain like rock gardens the wheels can get banged up and easily lose the seal.

It would really be a “Extreme” model if they could make the weight 180kgs or less for mere mortals like us to use the bike even a fraction of the way that pros like Pol Tarres do.
