Yamaha Unveils Tenere 700 ‘Extreme’ And ‘Explore’ Models For 2023
New models take the T7 in two different directions for Touring or Off-Road travel.
Since its launch in 2019, Yamaha has expanded the Tenere 700 range over the years with the introduction of the Rally Edition and the World Raid Edition machines. Now, the manufacturer is at it again, dropping the cover on two new T7 models for 2023: The Extreme Edition and Explore Edition.
Unveiled at the Lyon Two-Wheel Show in France, the new versions offer fans of the platform more options depending on whether they are looking for more dirt performance compared to the standard bike or a lower and more touring-oriented ride. Here are the details Yamaha Europe has provided so far:
Tenere 700 Extreme Edition
To boost the off-road capability of the standard T7, the Extreme Edition not only receives a high enduro-style front fender but also the long travel suspension of the World Raid featuring fully-adjustable premium KYB suspension with 230 mm in the front and 220 mm in the rear (20 mm of extra travel front and rear over the standard). For increased durability with reduced internal friction, the longer travel 43 mm front forks feature a resilient Kashima coating on the outer tube, with a distinctive dark bronze color.
While keeping the 16-liter fuel tank of the standard bike, the Tenere 700 Extreme Edition also offers 260 mm ground clearance (20 mm more than the standard) and a rally seat with 20 mm extra padding providing a taller saddle height of 910 mm (35.8 inches). The bike is also equipped with a 5” TFT display with three themes, larger titanium footpegs, aluminum radiator guard and chain guide.
Highlights
- Fully adjustable 43mm diameter KYB fork with Kashima coating, 230 mm travel (20 mm more than the T7).
- Fully-adjustable KYB canister shock, 220 mm travel (20 mm more than the T7)
- 260 mm ground clearance (20 mm more than the T7)
- Flat one-piece saddle with 20 mm extra padding providing a taller saddle height of 910 mm
- 5-inch TFT meter connected to three themes
- Lightweight, non-slip titanium footpegs provide 35% more surface area
- Tall, enduro-style, color-matched front fender
- Aluminum radiator guard and chain guide
Tenere 700 Explore Edition
According to Yamaha, the Explore Edition is designed for those looking for more travel comfort and a more accessible ride. The model features a revised KYB suspension front and rear offering 20 mm less travel than the standard T7 for a total of 190 mm/180 mm of front and rear wheel travel respectively.
The suspension changes contribute to a lower seat height of 860 mm (33.9 inches) for easier ground access and improved low-speed control. Additionally, the front and rear spring rates have been slightly increased for improved handling and safety when the bike is fully loaded.
The Ténéré 700 Explore Edition is also equipped with a 5” TFT display and a higher and wider windscreen, which increases the surface area by 50% and improves driving comfort. With pannier brackets fitted as standard, customers can choose to fit Yamaha Genuine hard or soft panniers at an additional cost. Finally, a new quick-shift system with Ténéré-specific settings for quick gear changes and smoother acceleration completes its features.
Highlights
- 43 mm KYB fork, 190 mm front wheel travel (20 mm less than the Ténéré 700)
- Remotely adjustable shock absorber, rear wheel travel of 180 mm (20 mm less than the Ténéré 700)
- Saddle height reduced to 860 mm for more stability when stationary and greater maneuverability (15 mm less than the T7).
- 50% larger screen for better wind protection
- side pannier brackets
- 5-inch color TFT screen
- Choice of original Yamaha hard or soft side cases (at extra cost)
- Shifter for optimized gear changes
Availability and Pricing
If you live on our side of the pond, you might not find it surprising that there is no word yet on whether the new models will be coming to North America. In Europe, the new T7 versions have been announced in some countries including France, Germany and Italy. The Extreme Edition has been priced in France at €11,899 and the Explore Edition at €11,799 with expected arrival at dealers starting in April. Both editions will be available in Icon Blue and Tech Kamo.

More options are always better, but as a 6’3″ guy with a 36″ inseam I can’t imagine handling a bike with 20mm more suspension and a 20mm taller seat, especially with the high COG of the standard fuel tank.
Wonder if Yamaha at all pondered a 19/17″ tubeless wheel option for the Explore version. Still plenty of off road ability for most folks but it would be even more street/touring oriented with an even lower seat height. The 910 mm seat height of the Extreme is a bit umm…extreme. Not so much a problem on a 250 lb. enduro but on the T7, yikes.
You the same one on adv rider crying over the 17″ wheel ?
No.
Can’t get either, on to something else!
Is the Tenere 700 coming to America?
Yes, in 2019!
that mudguard is strange, it is not entire high level mudguard, and not entire low level mudguard…
it feels to me the mudguard has the worst of both world really, not stable frontend on high speed, and yet it stops front wheel from spinning when the mud clogged up the lower fender part.
i meant this is not a bike for show… why not just make a proper high level mudguard……
tbh, i’d rather buy kove 800x , cheaper and lighter
Lol then you get laughed at for buying Chinese
I don’t understand why no special editions will come to America. I want theextreme edition but I’ll have to go with the aprilia tuareg I guess… I’d rather the t7 extreme though.
Why is Yamaha taking so long to bring this motorcycles to America and why when they arrive are so dificult to find one to buy? is Yamaha dum? the competition will fill their incompetence to sell motorcycles.
