A sunny fall day in Southern California had motorcyclists heading down to the Long Beach International Motorcycle Show in droves. The Long Beach show saw approximately 52,000 attendees over three days. The festivities kicked off early Friday morning, November 14th with Media Day. Of course the big news was the new Honda Africa Twin but there were several other new and exciting bikes and products to see at the show.
The Convention Center in Long Beach was packed with 178 exhibitors that included motorcycle gear and accessory manufacturers along with the big OEMs like KTM, BMW, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Triumph and more. We spent a few days walking the floors on a mission to find anything new and interesting for Adventure Riders. Below are some of the highlights from the show.
The Africa Twin was the big news at the show. For many, it was their first time getting a chance to look at the bike up close and sit on it. Shown here is the silver model fully loaded with factory accessories and DCT.
The new Ducati Multistrada Enduro is designed to be more capable in the dirt. With its brushed aluminum tank shrouds, it looks like a finely built timepiece. We’ll see how many owners are willing to get their beautiful bikes dirty in 2016.
KTM improves on its class-topping 500 EXC with the Six Days model that adds more performance and top-end components from the PowerParts Catalog.
The 2016 R1200GS Triple Black limited edition model is back by popular demand. The bike receives the full black-out treatment and should be a hot seller this year.
Nothing much has changed on the KLR650 since 2008. But owners seem to love the bike so much, why change it? This year the KLR650 gets a quirky new color scheme — Digital Camoflage!
Fans of the Euro VFR1200X CrossTourer have been wondering for years when the bike would come to the US. Favorable exchange rates have now made this possible and Honda is bringing the VFR1200X to the US. Preliminary pricing was announced at $15,599 for the base model and $15,999 for the DCT version.
The V-Strom 650XT gets stripped of its included accessories for 2016 to give it a more affordable starting price point. Now the Wee-Strom with wire-spoked wheels costs just $8,499, down from $10,399 in 2015.
The 2016 Yamaha Super Ténéré is now available in this stunning 60th Anniversary Yellow. The bike retails for $15,590 and is available on dealer showroom floors now!
The new Africa Twin CRF1000L was getting the bulk of the attention at the Honda booth, but the original 1988 Honda XRV650 Africa Twin on display looked just as exciting to ride.
The Carducci Dual Sport is a custom Adventure Bike that starts with a Harley Sportster donor and gets a 6.3 gallon tank, HID headlight and other top-of-the-line components. Expect to pay about $47,000 + the donor Harley to put one of these hand-crafted beauties in your garage.
CSC Motorcycles has had great success this year with the release of their 250cc Adventure Bike, the Cyclone RX-3. Now they are ready to release a new 250cc enduro-style dual sport — the TT 250 — at an introductory price of $1,895.
Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Lifan is bringing their 200cc enduro-style Dual Sport to the US as well. The bike is currently undergoing certification.
The popular Heidenau K60 dual sport tires are known for their longevity and impressive performance off-road. Heidenau recently started offering new sizes in the K60 (120/70-19 and 170/60-17) to fit the KTM 1190 Adventure and BMW R1200GS.
Moto-Skiveez have been improving their popular padded motorcycle shorts with new technology and are adding new products to their line. Now they offer compression socks, Lady Skiveez and will soon release new base layers as well.
Twisted Throttle was at the show displaying their new DrySpec waterproof soft luggage, SW-Motech Trax aluminum cases and Denali LED auxiliary lights.
The all new Touratech Aventuro Mod is surprisingly light for a Modular helmet and has nice off-road touches like a goggle strap holder. We look forward to getting our hands on one for testing soon!
This Sedici Avventura Carbon Fiber dual sport helmet at the CycleGear booth retails for just $279 and comes with DOT and ECE certifications.
AGV had their latest design of the AX-8 DS EVO Dual Sport Helmet on display — the Karacum.
