CFMoto Teases Off-Road Focused 800MT-X In Production-Ready Form

The new dirt-focused 800cc ADV looks to follow the original concept design closely.

Published on 09.30.2024

Last November, CFMoto turned heads at EICMA with the unveiling of an off-road focused concept bike called the 800MT-X. Since then, the Chinese company has kept any development plans underwraps but that seems to have changed with the release of a new official teaser video showcasing the bike in what appears to be a production-ready version.

Although we can only catch quick glimpses of the bike in action, the teaser shows a design that is very close to the concept version. We know from recently discovered type-approval documents that the 800MT-X will be powered by KTM’s 799cc LC8c liquid-cooled parallel twin, highlighting CFMoto’s long-running partnership with the Austrian brand.

While the uncovered documents report the engine will produce 94 hp, torque figures for the MT-X still remain elusive. However, it is reasonable to assume that it will share the same 57 lb-ft of torque found in its sibling Ibex models and the 790 Adventure. The uncovered documents also confirm that the bike will use KTM’s low-slung fuel design for a lower center of gravity.

Unlike the 790 Adventure model, the 800MT-X has been reported to have a longer wheelbase of 60.2 inches which is expected to accommodate a taller suspension than the 6.3 front and 5.9 inches of travel provided by the current Ibex 800s. The new model is also likely to boast a KYB suspension rather than KTM’s usual WP components. Plus a 21/18-inch wheel combo, spec’d to run 90/90-21 and 150/70-18 tires, confirms its adventurous intentions.

According to type-approval documents the MT-X will tip the scale at 471 pounds and will also be offered in a touring-ready variant. The real-world bike shown in the clip also appears to have dropped the Brembo brakes seen on the concept model, boasting instead what looks like a J.Juan set up.

While CFMoto has not confirmed a launch date, type-approval documents and now an official teaser showcasing a production-ready version, point to an unveiling of a real-world 800MT-X possibly at EICMA. We’ll be sure to report any new developments so stay tuned!
