New Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route Coming
A new option to discover Oregon’s epic backcountry is underway.

Since 2010, the adventure motorcycling non-profit Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) organization has created several trans-state routes for dual sport and adventure motorcycle travel. Having recently published the Wyoming route, the BDR is heading to the west coast with the announcement of the Oregon Discovery Route (ORBDR) now under development.
Scheduled for release on February 4th 2023, the ORBDR will be the 12th adventure motorcycle route developed by the organization. The tracks will be significantly different from the decades-old ‘Oregon Back Country Discovery Route’ which was created by Bob & Cheryl Greenstreet and is not managed by the BDR.

The new ORBDR will take riders through Eastern and Central Oregon as well as the Northern Cascade Range. The route will cover a wide range of terrain including lava rocks, silt, sand, sage hills and dense forests.
“The state’s volcanism is on display all along the route with hot springs, lava caves, buttes, and glaciated volcanoes that are easy to see or visit on every section. This route is one of the best ways to discover the backcountry of Oregon,” says the BDR.

Like previous BDRs released, the ORBDR will include free GPS tracks, travel resources and digital maps. There will also be a feature-length expedition documentary film produced that will premiere at dealerships and motorcycle clubs around the country during the Winter 2023 film tour. At the end of the national film tour, the documentary will be available for free on YouTube.
Keep an eye out for more updates leading up to the full release dates.
